Job Description
Engineers Nova Scotia is the licensing and regulatory body for the ~8,500 Professional Engineers and Engineers-in-Training practicing in Nova Scotia or on Nova Scotia projects. Guided by the Engineering Profession Act, we license registrants who are qualified and competent, assisting them to fulfill their obligations to practice engineering in the best interests of the public.

Position Summary
The Senior Accountant reports to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), and is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of Engineers Nova Scotia. This includes payroll, expense management, the creation of financial statements (including month-end and year-end), the collection and processing of registrant and company annual dues, and the management of accounts payable and receivables.
Key responsibilities
Finance
· Manage the daily financial operations, including accounts payable and receivables and ensure payments are made/collected in a timely manner.
· Participate in the creation of yearly operating budgets in support of the CEO and COO.
· Prepare documents to support year-end audit and provide auditors with additional information as needed.
· Analyze cash flow on an ongoing basis to ensure adequate resources to support payroll and other financial responsibilities.
· Prepare monthly financial statements for review and approval by the Financial and Audit Committee, and for the information of Council.
· Collect registrant and company annual dues, and ensure they are deposited and tracked in accordance with accounting standards.
· Coordinate Finance and Audit Committee meetings, including scheduling, meeting agenda development and distribution of financial statements, and other associated information for Committee review and approval.
Administration
· Manage and coordinate human resource changes for employees, and the health and wellness benefit plan.
· Process bi-monthly payroll and year-end requirements (including T4 reconciliation) and coordinate all benefits administration.
Other Duties
· Complete additional tasks assigned by the COO & CEO that are within capacity and capability
Education and experience
· Accounting degree required and professional accounting designation an asset
· Minimum of 3 – 5 years of accounting experience, including thorough knowledge of accounting principles, and familiarity with tax and payroll processes
· Highly experienced with QuickBooks (Desktop and Online) and ADP Payroll software
· Experience in process improvement through system adaptation and implementation an asset
· Experience in government or a regulated industry an asset
