We are currently recruiting for a General Accountant to join our Finance team, working out of our Toronto Campus. The role encompasses responsibility for the accounting activities related to several key areas and internal control testing of Hanson College and related entities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure all tracking, accounting, payment and reconciliation/reporting activities related to Hanson’s key partners (colleges and agents) are managed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Recording of monthly revenue and associated expenses following company policies and Canadian GAAP.
- Review of all General Ledgers (GL) and maintain GL for all Hanson and related entities.
- Monthly reporting and analysis of performance against budget and forecast.
- Support the Finance department in AR/AP management and in meeting team goals.
- Assist and support the annual external audit process.
- Any other accounting duties as assigned.
- Evaluate processes, identify risks and controls, and develop risk-focused audit plans to ensure control adequacy.
- Execute internal audits (revenue, expenditures, payroll, fixed asset, etc.), identify and communicate audit findings to senior leadership.
- Vendors and agents contract review and management.
- Perform other internal audit duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications:
- A team player with strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Structured thinker; approaches tasks in a well-thought out, logical manner.
- Strong analytical skills; able to organize and present data in a clear, concise manner to support decision making.
- Strong time management skills, ability to multi-task and prioritize in a demanding, fast-paced environment.
- Customer focused.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business.
- Minimum 2-3 years of progressive work experience in a full-cycle accounting function and or internal auditing.
- Completion or in progress professional designation ( CIA or CPA: CA, CMA or CGA).
- Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel).
- Familiarity with QuickBooks or other major accounting software.
