In keeping with the Mattamy mission of providing The Best Homeowner Experience, the Staff Accountant ensures that financial information is prepared and analyzed with a high degree of accuracy and on a timely basis.
In addition, Mattamy Homes is proud to be a designated CPA Employer and we anticipate that the successful candidate will be eligible to participate in our Mattamy Homes CPA Program, which provides cost and time support towards the attainment of the CPA designation.
What you’ll do- Perform certain day-to-day accounting for internal and external reporting requirements including journal entries, customer deposits, and occupancy/final closing entries.
- Lead the process of monthly closing of the bank reconciliation files, including following up on unreconciled entries and processing standardized journal entries for all Canadian bank accounts.
- Maintain and reconcile customer deposit schedules in coordination with Sales and Marketing, Design Center and Sales Center Teams ensuring accuracy of bank and customer accounts.
- Maintain and reconcile ongoing sales closing receivable balances.
- Maintain Escrow balances in coordination with the Lawyer trust ledgers monthly.
- Provide support to reporting analysts to ensure journal entries are recorded in a timely manner and ensure month end moves forward smoothly.
- Manage new addition of bank accounts in the monthly bank reconciliation file by coordinating with Treasury in a timely manner.
- Responsible for downloading bank statements and Moneris credit card reports to input data into established reconciliation templates.
- Coordinate with and support Sales & Marketing related inquiries in a timely manner.
- Adhere to controls and procedures and ensure integrity of financial information.
- Create, maintain monthly closings tracker, and lead monthly closing kick off meetings, communicating weekly on delays/issue to the manager.
- Provide support to divisional/Corporate Audit teams for any GL pulls, schedules or support as needed.
- Responsible for processing customer care property tax refund requests, and compiling property tax payment schedules for Accounts payable processing in a timely manner
- Responsible for rolling monthly folders, files and OneStream workflows and journal entries.
- Other ad hoc tasks, as assigned.
What you bring
- 3+ years of relevant experience in a Finance or Accounting Department
- University degree in Accounting or Finance
- Ability to learn new software packages and experience with JD Edwards, Hyperion or Essbase considered a definite asset.
- Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills, including regular use of functions, pivot tables, etc.
- Strong analytical, accounting, and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail
- Results-oriented with ability to set realistic and attainable goals and meet those on time.
- Demonstrates the highest level of ethics and personal integrity.
