Job Description
We are seeking an energetic Senior Accountant to join our Corporate Finance team headquartered in Vancouver, BC to support corporate finance functions in operations, internal and external reporting. He/she will have working knowledge of SOX compliance, US GAAP and will lead various aspects of the monthly accounting cycle.
Position Responsibilities:
- Review journal entries, vouchers, schedules, reconciliations and leadsheets prepared by the accountant
- Assists the Senior Manager, Finance and Accounting to ensure a timely month-end close
- Research, analyze and prepare technical accounting memorandums, present and discuss findings with stakeholders
- Investigates and resolves reconciling items on key accounts
- Prepare working papers and journal entries on complex accounts, and provide variance analysis on a monthly basis
- Maintain integrity of financial information across multiple systems
- Support preparation of company’s quarterly and annual external filings under US GAAP
- Prepare monthly variance analysis for assigned business units within the organization
- Management analysis, updating schedules and ad-hoc project-related analysis
- Assist in systems improvement and implementation projects as needed
- Facilitate and understand processes and internal control requirements, propose and develop procedures to improve efficiency
- Provide accounting guidance and mentorship to members of the accounting team
- Assist the audit process (external, internal and statutory) by preparing working papers and communicating with auditors
Health & Safety Responsibilities:
- Promote Westport’s H&S culture following all Environmental, and H&S procedures and understanding your obligations and responsibilities
- Report unsafe conditions, behaviors and all accidents
- Co-operate with JHSC (Joint Health & Safety Committee) and Safety representative
Position Requirements:
- CPA, CA, CGA or CMA designation
- 3+ years' experience preferably within a public company or a big 4 accounting firm
- Experience in auditing complex, multi-jurisdictional public companies; experience with US GAAP is an asset
- Excellent computer skills. Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with JD Edwards or similar ERP is an asset
- Able to handle multiple priorities in fast-paced environment
- Proven work ethic and ability to work as a team and under pressure to meet tight deadlines
