Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Financial Services, this position will be responsible for financial reporting, analysis, monitoring, training, support and reporting of school generated funds across our elementary and secondary Schools. This position will also perform a variety of administrative and technical tasks associated with the reporting and maintenance of school budgets.
Responsibilities
- Reviews school accounting processes with respect to school generated funds forecasting, allocation and reporting and internal controls, and prepares year-end forecasts and projections for inclusion in Board financial statements.
- Identifies opportunities and makes recommendations for improvement of department work processes and procedures, and contributes to team problem solving and results improvement initiatives.
- Perform internal compliance audits of school funds to board policy and procedure.
- Provide support and guidance to school administration with respect to budget and accounting, internal controls and policy and procedure.
- Coordinate the preparation of reports that support the reporting of school funds in accordance with PSAB, Board and Ministry requirements.
- Collaborate and coordinate with external auditors for annual school visits and year-end audit.
- Deliver training to school staff and administration as required.
- Perform special projects as required and other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Diploma or Degree in Accounting or Finance, or a combination of education and professional experience deemed equivalent by the Board.
- Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience. School based financial experience is preferred.
- Experience with School Day and VIA/SDS software preferred.
- Proficient with computer applications Microsoft Excel, Word, Gmail, Google platform, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Proven experience in dealing constructively with internal and external stakeholders and various business partners which enable effective service delivery
- A high degree of skill in organization, and planning and time management are required.
- Contributes to the success of Business and Finance initiatives by researching, analyzing and sharing best practices.
- Interpersonal and leadership skills are essential, as is the ability to create new and innovative solutions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills that promote and guide others to understanding information
- Proven interpersonal skills exhibiting diplomacy, constructive team based skills and abilities
- Results oriented and equally comfortable working under minimal supervision or in a team based group environment
