Position Summary:
The Fitness Centre Attendant aids in the operation of the Fitness Centre of George Brown College by providing front-line fitness and personal training services to students, staff, alumni, and community members using the facility.
Key responsibilities:
Demonstrates correct training techniques and how to use the fitness equipment and machinery properly.
- Meets with members to hear their goals and assess their needs, gauge the requirements, and effectively design individual fitness and exercise training programs.
- Advises members of the rules and policies, precautionary and safety measures that need to be taken while using the Fitness Centre facility and answers health, fitness, and training questions.
- Oversees that Fitness Centre equipment is effectively cleaned and maintained, ensuring a safe workout environment for members.
- Develops fitness events and programs to encourage participation in healthy active lifestyle activities.
- Documents and reports all equipment malfunction, safety hazards and medical incidents to the Athletic Facilities Coordinator.
- Serves as a first responder in emergency situations and follows emergency protocols.
- In absence of Athletic Facilities Coordinator, the Fitness Centre Attendant assists with student-staff oversight, problem solving and general customer service.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
Two-year post-secondary diploma or degree in Fitness & Health Promotion, Kinesiology, or equivalent.
- Personal Training certification (ex. CanFit Pro, or other).
- Standard First Aid & CPR certification.
- Two (2) years of experience required in fitness facility or athletic centre setting designing and delivering personal training programs.
Skills and Attributes:
- High level of customer service skills, including problem-solving and capacity to exercise good judgment and initiative.
- Able to work independently and as a team member.
- Demonstrated communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills at a professional level.
- Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College’s priorities on diversity and equity.
Interview process may consist of a practical skills component.

- The College requires proof of degrees, credentials or equivalencies from accredited regional or federal post-secondary institutions and/or their international equivalents. Credentials may require validation at the time of interviews or offer.
