Primary Purpose of Position
Sinopec Canada has an opportunity for a Senior Automation Controls Engineer to join the Facility team. Reporting to the
Manager, Facility Engineering and Maintenance, the Senior Automation Controls Engineer will be responsible for the configuration and management of Sinopec Canada’s automated systems.
This position is based in Sinopec Canada’s Calgary, Alberta head office, on a hybrid office schedule, with the option to work from home on Monday and Friday.
Roles and Responsibilities are as follows but are not limited to:
- Develop a companywide management system to standardize and modernize the existing automation systems.
- Design and implement control philosophies / control narratives.
- DDE platform implementation (experience in generating KPI systems with use of DDE or adequate data transfer
& historian generation).
- OT development (operational technology implementation)
- Manage facility shutdown keys and control narratives.
- Standardization of process alarm and reporting requirements for multiple control systems.
- P&ID, electrical drawing interpretation to generate detailed control narratives.
- Implement a Thin Client
- SIS implementation (safety integrated systems)
- Review automation system functionality, efficiency, and safety across all the field sites.
- Participate in project FEED studies, MOC meetings and HAZOP / Risk assessments & facility’s development plans.
- Develop control system’s architectures with existing equipment.
- Assist third party automation teams with detailed development & controls designs.
- Prepare budget and present projects to senior management team for approvals for automation & controls- based project scopes.
- Support internal and external audits regarding measurement and data capture via SCADA systems.
Position Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Highly versed in industrial networking practices
- Experience with multiple of the following would be considered an asset. o SCADA Experience: GEOSCADA, VT-Scada, IC-Scada, (equivalent software suits) o Bristol Control Wave Designer. o Schneider: Telepace studio, E workbench, ISaGRAPH, o Allen Bradley: RSLogix500, RSLogix5000, Studio 5000, RS-Linx
o Rockwell PlantPAx” o Rockwell Software and equivalent suites, familiarity with measurement practice’s (rock link) o Industrial Communications and Protocols- OPC, IIOT, MQTT, IP4, IP6, Industrial networking practice’s o Knowledge with Ignition, Wonderware Intouch/Aveva. Red Lion (Crimson) o Versed in DCS integration & implementation.
- PLC applications for Switchgear (Device net / FFB implementation)
- Experience developing, integrating, installing, and commissioning industrial control systems using PLC and HMI solutions.
- Experience with common industrial protocol conversion & system’s integration (older & newer equipment integration)
- Knowledge of basic electrical theory and electrical power distribution equipment
- High level of understanding SIS
- Knowledge in ISA Standards
- Knowledge in AER and associated directives
- Skilled with Microsoft software such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work in a multi-discipline and operate effectively in a diverse and multi-cultural environment.
- Demonstrates the ability to work together, drive the business as-well work as a team
- Displays a high-level of integrity in all actions, complying with and promoting the company’s core values, a respectful work environment, and aligning with the code of business conduct.
Qualifications
- 10+ years within the field level of engineering controls and automation experience.
- Experience in upstream oil and gas production operations with strong background in process controls, instrumentation, programming, and electrical technology.
- Bachelor of Engineering degree is preferred. Engineering Technology certification will be considered
(Instrumentation engineering technologist or electrical engineering technologist).
- A Trade certificate coupled with the listed attributes will be considered an asset (Instrumentation & Controls
Technician, Electrician)
- Ability to travel with a valid Class 5 Alberta drivers license and good driving record.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
