We are currently seeking a BI Developer to join our team in Victoria, British Columbia (CA-BC), Canada (CA).
As a Power BI Developer you will be responsible for creating and optimizing Power BI data models, developing robust datasets and building visually appealing, scalable and performant Power BI reports. Your responsibility will be to design, develop, and maintain the technical and content architecture of our Power BI solutions, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create visually engaging and simple to navigate Power BI reports using an agile development approach
- Operationally support the Power BI environment; address support tickets
- Provide Power BI recommendations for project planning and execution purposes
- Manage and maintain the Power BI environment, including Workspaces, content permissions and content Deployment Pipelines
- Develop and maintain efficient data transformation processes in PowerQuery (M) to extract from various sources into Power BI
- Design and develop data models that support complex business requirements, ensuring re-usability, performance, and maintainability
- Create and optimize DAX formulas to calculate and aggregate data.
- Build and maintain technical documentation for data models, data transformation processes, and other technical aspects of our Power BI solutions
- Capture and fulfill business questions, requirements and user stories for reporting, including business and technical data definitions
- Conduct usability testing for Power BI reports, and modify reports as necessary to ensure designs are optimally user-friendly and intuitive
- Seek opportunities for automation and other forms of continuous improvement and optimization
- Collaborate with data engineers, data analysts, and business stakeholders to define data requirements. Seek opportunities to consolidate reports.
- Stay up to date with the latest Power BI features and functionality, and recommend updates to our solution accordingly
- Identify and resolve usability, content, and technical issues for reports and dashboards
- Construct and monitor data refresh processes to ensure report content is both up to date and accurate
- Troubleshoot and debug technical issues in Power BI content
- Train and support Power BI report users, developing training content where applicable
Requirements:
- 3+ years business intelligence, analytics, and/or reporting experience
- 2+ years of experience designing and developing Power BI reports.
- Strong understanding of Kimball data modeling, data transformation processes, and SQL
- Experience with Power Query, DAX, and M languages
- Proficiency in SQL Server, Oracle databases, or other relational database management systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to quickly prototype (MVP) design concepts and ideas
- Ability to work collaboratively with information technology teams, data analysts, and business stakeholders
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications:
- Power BI certification
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- Prior experience developing ETL or ELT processes using an industry recognized ETL/ELT toolset
- Experience with Power Platform, including PowerApps and Power Automate
- Knowledge of advanced analytics, including machine learning and AI
- Familiarity with Microsoft Cloud technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Data Warehouse or Data Lake
- Agile development experience
- Healthcare and/or Health Insurance industry experience
