Your opportunity:
Under the direction of the Dean, Student Experience and Wellbeing, you will provide advice on communications and strategic planning for the Office of Student Experience and Wellbeing (OSEW) portfolio and align departmental communication strategies with the campus and University’s priorities. You will liaise and work closely with the Department of Communications & Public Affairs (CPA) to ensure alignment of communication strategies and branding, and to share stories that may be of interest to the broader campus and the University of Toronto community.
Working with the Dean and working in collaboration with UTSC's Communications & Public Affairs, you will support OSEW's internal and external communications by:
Developing creative, persuasive, and cost-effective communications strategies that align with the Office’s priorities and objectives;- Determining and overseeing the development of appropriate communication channels, messaging, initiatives, and campaigns to maximize impact;
- Providing communication consultation for portfolio leadership, and guidance to departmental marketing and communication staff within OSEW who are navigating a large, complex communications environment; and,
- Applying strong project management skills to move successfully through the various phases of projects, including identifying objectives, assigning responsibilities, scheduling milestones and deadlines, resource management, supplier relations and monitoring timelines and budget.
In addition, you will work closely with UTSC's Communications and Public Affairs team to ensure local initiatives are implemented as per tri-campus priorities, and are aligned with the University’s strategic messaging and are communicated effectively through campus channels. As a lead, you will direct the activities of a small group of staff within OSEW in order to raise the profile of the portfolio among students and stakeholders and work closely with campus partners to position the OSEW portfolio as a leader of the student experience at UTSC.
Your responsibilities will include:
Developing and implementing communication plans that support strategic objectives- Developing and implementing marketing plans to promote programs, events and/or initiatives that support strategic objectives
- Implementing marketing plans to strengthen brand profiles
- Advising on marketing best practices and brand-building opportunities
- Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
- Conducting market research and analysis
- Producing promotional and outreach materials
- Consulting with clients regarding the development of project scope and resources
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, public relations or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.- Minimum five (5) years of related experience with progressive responsibility in marketing and communications, advising clients on marketing and communications best practices; brand-building; campaign strategies and developing and implementing communication and marketing plans
- Strong project management experience with the ability to conceptualize and execute a variety of communications projects with budget and within deadlines
- Must have experience supervising staff, directing activities of a small team with the ability to set priorities
- Demonstrated experience with a range of digital, video, mobile and print channels, including content management systems, website development (Wordpress, Drupal), social media platforms and analysis tools
- Superior oral and written communication skills with the ability to deliver effective presentations and have a high level of attention to detail
- Customer service focused with highly developed organizational and relationship management skills, as well as demonstrated professionalism, ability to display tact, diplomacy and maintain confidentiality
- Highly creative, innovative, excellent judgment, self-motivated and a strategic thinker
- Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
- Demonstrated commitment to keeping current with evolving communications technologies
- Knowledge of AODA standards
- Strong ability to work effectively under pressure with competing deadlines

USW Pay Band 13 - $76,284 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $97,556. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
