The Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) is the National Government of the Red River Métis - also known as the Manitoba Métis. The Red River Métis are Canada’s Negotiating Partners in Confederation and the Founders of the Province of Manitoba.
The Infinity Women Secretariat (IWS) is a proud affiliate of the MMF whose main purpose is to promote, empower and enhance the social, culture and economic well-being of Red River Métis Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQ+ Individuals.
The IWS seeks to fill one full-time Financial Officer position located at 150 Henry Ave in Winnipeg, MB. Reporting to the IWS Spokeswoman, the Financial Officer is responsible for keeping accurate financial records, performing accounting transactions and reconciling accounts, and the preparation of all financial reports in consultation with IWS leadership. The incumbent ensures that all financial bookkeeping systems and controls are maintained in accordance with the policies of the Infinity Women Secretariat, on a regular basis.
Job Duties/Competencies:
- Manage accounts receivable and payable, as well as expenses, maintaining accounting books at all times;
- Evaluate financial controls and procedures, ensuring that established controls and systems are applied;
- Prepare income statements, balance sheets, and operational budgets. Assist in the preparing and monitoring of project budgets;
- Keep records of cheque requisitions, invoices, and tax remittance, as well as reviewing and processing reimbursements;
- Develop and monitor forecasts, cashflows, and expenditure plans, highlighting variances and resource allocation for review;
- Ensure the completion of monthly financial statements, presenting pertinent financial documents for review and approval by IWS leadership.
Skills and Qualifications:
- College degree in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or relevant field; equivalent experience may be considered;
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a financial officer, bookkeeper, or similar;
- In-depth knowledge of financial controls and accounting standards;
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software, SAGE accounting software programs preferred;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams;
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, writing and time management skills;
- Knowledge of Red River Métis culture and MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,
- Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
