Job Description
The Royal Canadian Mint is hiring a Financial Analyst, Project Accounting and Cost Accountant who can thrive in a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Complex Accounting, the Financial Analyst is responsible for the successful execution of all day-to-day activities associated with the accuracy of project accounting, cost accounting and the monitoring of capital assets. The incumbent will be responsible to assist their leader and peers to effectively and efficiently execute on day-to-day general accounting and reporting and standard costing activities.
- Ensure proper structure of project details, purchase orders and contracts are in place to allow stakeholders to consult progress on demand and recommend improvements as needed.
- Estimate the project costs incurred each period and prepare manual accruals, as required, on a monthly basis.
- Monitor and validate the progress of projects, looking into variances and ensuring that all costs and revenues are recorded in the appropriate period.
- Support project managers and stakeholders across the Mint in estimating the cost to complete the projects, as well as provisions and necessary risks.
- Work closely with the financial planning and analysis team to support project operations through the preparation of project reporting inclusive of budget, costs to date and financial performance across projects.
- Ensure adherence to accounting policies, procedures and internal controls at the project and corporate level, and investigating any irregularities.
- Responsible for the accuracy of cost accounting in accordance with IFRS, calculate variance analyses and work with the Financial Analyst, Revenue and inventory accounting, to ensure proper inventory valuation and cost of sales recognition in the correct periods.
- Manage fixed assets and depreciation schedules including, asset additions, transfers and disposals with quarterly validation of existence and annual reviews coordinated with stakeholders across the Mint.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end fixed asset continuity reports and construction in progress reporting for capital assets in progress.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reports and reconciliations as well as any financial statement notes as required for external reporting.
- Support the implementation of the project management and accounting module and fixed assets module in D365 and be the subject matter expert for these modules and processes post implementation.
- Bachelors in Accounting or Finance with a professional designation i.e. CPA.
- Additional experience in project accounting and financial reporting.
- Minimum of 5 years of related business experience, including Big 4 firm experience.
- Demonstrated success with financial analysis, data analysis and financial reporting.
- Excellent communications skills, both oral and written, to present complex financial data in an organized, concise manner.
- Team player with strong work ethic and organizational skills to work independently as well.
- Strong background in business processes and internal controls.
- Demonstrated ability to resolve and analyze complex accounting issues.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Bilingual (English and French) is an asset.
