Medicine Hat College invites applications for a Counsellor in our Student Services Department. This appointment is a term specific, full-time, 35 hours per week position with a proposed start date of August 21, 2023 ending May 31, 2024.
This position will provide crisis intervention and counselling services to students at our Medicine Hat campus. As part of a larger mental health strategy, the Counsellor will assist in resolving personal issues hindering academic success, liaise with internal and external student support services, and maintain student records and statistical data as required by Counselling Services. The Counsellor will develop and deliver student support forums including workshops on managing stress, balancing studies with personal lives, establishing positive relationships, and sexual health.
- Graduate degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, or a related discipline
- Minimum 2 years professional experience, including working with diverse groups & cultures
- Registration with a regulated body
- Experience facilitating group therapy
- Experience working effectively in a team setting
- Experience working in a post-secondary education environment is preferred
- Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, coaching, and mentoring skills
- Required to work some evenings
