Scope
Responsible for provision of settlement and orientation services for eligible newcomers; delivering a full scope of settlement assistance including needs assessment, information and referral provision, individual and group orientation, solution focused counselling, and interpretation.
Responsibilities
- Provide a full range of settlement services to new immigrants and newcomer families
- Conduct thorough settlement needs assessment for each client
- Provide solution-focused counselling by setting settlement goals and developing plan of action for every client
- Conduct follow up as needed, identifying if set goals have been met
- Provide comprehensive information on orientation to Canadian society
- Connect newcomers with internal programs and services
- Provide information and referral regarding external programs and services
- Provide interpretation to eligible clients as required for addressing settlement needs
- Organize and facilitate information group sessions on settlement topics
- Organize and facilitate newcomer clubs for target community
- Conduct program promotion activities to reach immigrants and to promote public awareness of the program and settlement issues
- Maintain and expand client base through outreach, community engagement and itinerate functions, which includes developing outreach materials and conducting off-site visits
- Maintain strong working relations with agency programs and partner agencies
- Effectively track services in internal and external databases, providing accurate reporting to supervisor
- Achieves the targets set by Programs Manager
- Actively participate in the professional development initiatives to enhance skills and knowledge
- Perform any other related duties as required

Qualifications
- A degree/Diploma in Social Work, Counselling or Education and at least three years’ experience working with immigrant communities or a combination of experience and education that fulfills the requirements
- Registered Social Worker (RSW) is a definite asset
- Language Proficiency certificate identifying the fluency of English and target language skills (for ATIO members present the certificate of membership)
- Knowledge of immigration and refugee services and ethno-specific programs and services in the GTA
- Familiarity with issues facing newcomers in a Canadian urban setting and systemic barriers relating to integration in social, cultural, and economic aspects of Canadian life
- Excellent interpersonal, cross cultural, written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in outreach, community development and marketing of program and services
- Ability to work flexible schedules on an as needed basis
- Ability to deliver services in a second language
Other requirements
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check (completed when offer is made)
