Creative Director Position
COMPANY OVERVIEW
At Simple Story, we help businesses simplify and communicate their value propositions using video. Based in Ottawa (working fully remotely), we are a small creative team that has produced over 700 animation and live-action videos from startups to Fortune 500 companies with varied clients such as Bell Canada, CIBC, Shopify, WWF, Walmart, Pitney Bowes, Citrix, Blackboard Inc., the Government of Canada, and many more.

ROLE
Simple Story is seeking a creative individual with great communication skills, a love for animation and live-action video, and a problem solver who values providing a superb client experience. We are looking for a Creative Director that will help us lead projects creatively and bring video production experience to the team.
As Creative Director, you will work closely with clients to discover what they are looking to achieve, set the vision and overall creative direction for projects, and lead other creatives at every stage of production to ensure the direction and quality is being followed.

Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in design and animation OR live-action video
- 3+ years of working with clients through video projects
- 3+ years of experience in leading and directing projects creatively
- 2+ years of working with creative team members
- Creative individual with a strong sense of strategy
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills
- Brand or digital marketing and/or advertising experience is an asset
- Experience working in an agency setting is an asset
Responsibilities:
- Developing creative concepts for video projects
- Clearly communicate design, motion, and animation ideas to clients as well as creative members
- Direct a creative team at every project phase, from kick-off through to delivery
- Act as a client’s primary point of contact for all creative matters
- Strive to deeply understand and fluently converse about your clients’ industries, customers, needs, key challenges, brands, and messaging.
Abilities, Skills and Knowledge:
- Ability to help conceptualize and strategize on a client's brief. This includes writing scripts (or sourcing out a copywriter) developing a concept & creative treatment and gathering all the supporting material to do so.
- Ability to present and express creative rationale to internal members
- Ability to efficiently utilize MAC computers and current fluency in relevant computer programs such as: Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects
- Must be an overall team player with the ability to take direction well and work on projects autonomously.
- Self-motivated and proactive work ethic to complete multiple tasks and projects within deadline constraints (effective time management); many projects and assignments may occur simultaneously.
- Must be hands-on with working understanding and sense of design and layout
- Proficient at working with creative professionals such as copywriters, designers, illustrators, animators, and editors
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must be able to present effectively
- Strong organization and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and follow-through
- Must be able to effectively handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Team player with good people skills
