Job Purpose:
Contributes to the overall success of the International Banking (IB) Communications team ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. The Director, International Banking Internal Communications is a key member and contributor to the overall success of the International Banking (IB) Group through the planning, execution, and oversight of impactful communications strategies and products in support of strategic business priorities. The incumbent leads complex cross-functional initiatives and works closely with a diverse range of stakeholders to deliver on his/her objectives. A seasoned communicator, the Director plays an integral role in the strategic development of key messages for various audiences and fosters alignment with all-Bank communications and countries in the Bank’s footprint. In coordination with the VP, IB Communications, the Director oversees the development and execution of executive Group Head communications, which includes creative development, project management and oversight of corporate communications and events across the International Banking footprint. As team leader, the Director fosters and maintains an inclusive and empowering work environment and helps develop a best-in-class communications function for IB Communications.

- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Strategic and Executive Communications
- As a key member of the IB comms team, the Director holds accountability for establishing strategic and tactical direction for various cross-functional communications initiatives, leading on planning and execution, anticipating developments, and fostering synergies across teams.
- Leads the strategic development of key messages for various audiences, in alignment with all-Bank communications and business priorities.
- Oversees content development and execution of executive Group Head communications, which includes creative development, project management and oversight of corporate communications across the International Banking footprint. These may include quarterly earnings packages, leader events, executive speech notes, briefings, Q&A, videos, social media, and others as required.
- Responsible for communicating International Banking’s strategy to employees to enhance engagement and awareness as well as increase alignment with the overall Scotiabank strategic narrative.
- Team Management / People
- Is a key player in the development of priorities, business plans and objectives for the area; sets priorities and allocates resources to align accordingly.
- Fosters and maintains an inclusive and empowering work environment for direct reports and
the broader Communications team and helps develop a best-in-class communications function for IB Communications.
- Always contributes to the development of a high-impact IB Comms team.
- Supports team members by offering advice and guidance and provide informal and formal coaching.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Accountable for results and impactful communications, the Director oversees ongoing reporting on various communications products. Develops KPIs to measure outcomes and team success and is proactive about finding improvements to established processes.
- Leads others to implement and incorporate the business line or sub-function strategy in delivering programs and results.
- Ensure internal communications align within and across the IB footprint with strong ties into the enterprise bank narrative and initiatives.
- Proactively seeks areas of greater alignment and collaboration with countries in the IB footprint.
- Oversee planning and execution of internal events.
- Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:
- Minimum undergraduate university degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Business, Marketing, or a related field. A post-graduate certificate in Public Relations is an asset.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in a corporate communications role.
- Superior verbal and written Spanish and English communication skills, including demonstrable creativity, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Strong change management experience.
- Excellent judgement and decision-making.
- Excellent time-management skills.
- Proven ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
- Ability to prioritize and react quickly within a rapidly changing environment.
- Diplomatic and flexible, with a positive, mature attitude, and be able to remain calm under pressure and to deliver under tight timelines.
- Must also be proactive and creative, with a strong, proven ability to plan and manage competing priorities, as well as an ability to recognize and appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
