Our 6,000 faculty and staff foster a vibrant, purpose-driven community, that celebrated 200 years of academic excellence in 2018.Job SummaryThe Faculty of Open Learning and Career Development (OLCD) develops and delivers innovative and diverse educational programs for more than 5000 students annually to help them navigate the changing world of learning and work. Reporting to the Dean, OLCD, the Director, Finance & Human Resources will monitor financial and human resources (HR) operations in a complex environment, identifying opportunities for innovative and forward-thinking change, and implementing strategic operational plans for their portfolio.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain effective internal controls, policies and procedures for finance, HR, finance technology and infrastructure to ensure that the Faculty’s day-to-day operational activities are efficient and effective and are in-line with approved strategic initiatives.Oversee all stages of the budget process. Complete financial reporting requirements for the university which also support the needs of a for-profit organization. Monitor the Faculty ’s progress against the budget on a regular basis, advising on issues identified.Provide guidance to OLCD leaders regarding resource allocation decisions, financing options, including using financial models to assess new and existing programs and identify opportunities for profit margin increases.Complete data collection, analysis and reporting for all elements of the faculty’s data landscape that relate to finance and HR. Work with OLCD team to forecast staffing needs and track HR costs in real time.Provide leadership and supervision for the recruitment, onboarding and orientation, evaluation and performance management of all staff members. Plan and direct periodic audits on the human resources work for quality control and compliance purposes.Manage and oversee the work of unionized and non-unionized staff who provide finance and HR technical advice and consultative support to internal clients on a broad range of issues.NoteThe successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.Required QualificationsUndergraduate degree in accounting or finance plus approximately five years’ progressive private sector experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).Experience in for profit-decision making and advising.A proven track record of accurate and timely financial management and insightful financial modeling and analysis in a dynamic, flexible and agile environment.Experience in human resources and/or experience managing a diverse team performing crucial functional work.Demonstrated exceptional communication skills (verbal and written).Demonstrated expertise in MS Excel, including building and using macros.Proven strong attention to detail, and organization and time management skills.AssetsMasters in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting, finance and/or human resources.An accounting designation.Experience in a start-up environment.Experience with financial systems, information systems and data analysis.Job CompetenciesAdditional InformationApplication ConsiderationApplications from university employees and external candidates are given concurrent consideration.
