Corporate Human Resources Director
Weldco Companies, comprised of Weldco-Beales Manufacturing and Weldco Heavy Industries, are active participants in the heavy steel industry. Weldco-Beales Manufacturing (WBM) manufactures heavy equipment attachments and truck mounted cranes. The products service the construction, forestry, mining and resource industries throughout Canada, U.S.A. and internationally. WBM has three branch locations; Edmonton (AB), Langley (BC), and Barrie (ON). Weldco Heavy Industries is a large steel repair and fabrication facility located in Fort McKay, 70km North of Fort McMurray (AB).
An exciting opportunity exists at our Edmonton Head Office for a Corporate Human Resources Director. Reporting to the President, key accountabilities include providing a comprehensive range of administrative and strategic human resources advisory services, training program development and delivery, development and implementation of diverse human resources strategies, programs and initiatives, and provision of consultative direction regarding best practices. Guided by strong ethics, sound business judgment and business instincts, the successful candidate will be competent in the following:
Develop and implement HR strategies, policies and procedures and initiatives aligned with the overall organizational strategy and culture.- Mentor and coach a talented team of HR Generalists located at each operation location.
- Support current and future business needs through corporate employee development, engagement, motivation, retention, and succession.
- Oversee the recruitment and selection process, ensuring the attraction and retention of top talent.
- Develop and monitor overall HR strategies, systems, processes and procedures across the organization.
- Lead and manage employee engagement and culture-building initiatives to foster a positive and inclusive work environment.
- Oversee and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance including goal setting, performance reviews, and employee development plans.
- Evaluate and oversee the administration of a compensation and benefits program that is competitive and aligned with corporate goals and industry standards.
- Assess training needs, develop and deliver training programs to enhance employee skills, knowledge, and understanding of company policies and legal requirements.
- Oversee employee engagement initiatives such as employee surveys, recognition programs and team-building activities.
- Support the leadership team by providing HR metrics and reports that help make strategic HR decisions.
- Provide guidance and coaching support to managers, HR generalists and employees on HR-related matters.
- Ensure legal compliance throughout human resource management.
- Lead and conduct investigations into employee complaints and grievances, and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Stay informed and communicate about industry trends and best practices in HR and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with other departments and leaders to ensure HR initiatives are integrated into the overall business strategy and consistency is maintained throughout the company.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or Management (preferably with an HR concentration).
- CPHR designation (or regional equivalent).
- A Master’s degree or currently working towards completion would be an advantage.
Experience
- Preferably 8+ years of Human Resources experience, with at least 3+ years Supervisory/Manager experience.
- Knowledge of provincial legislation for AB, BC, ON and USA is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and executing talent, acquisition, management and diversity strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in a variety of HR disciplines including organizational design, employee relations, compensation.
- Familiarity working within the manufacturing sector.

- Ability to effectively deal with issues and move them forward using the appropriate HR channels while providing expert counsel and consultation to business partners on their strategic plans.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Highly developed critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Self-motivated team player with high energy and ability to work independently.
- Proficient in HRIS systems and other HR-related software.
This position requires approximately 25% travel to our other branches in Langley BC, Fort McKay AB, and Barrie ON.
