Do you have experience organizing events and working with donors in your community? Hearth Place Cancer support Centre is looking for a dynamic fundraising leader to support our community.
Through compassionate care, Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre supports the emotional needs of families within the Durham Community and beyond. Established in 1997, Hearth Place welcomes cancer patients and their families to come and share their experiences, find resources, and discover new ways to care for themselves and each other.
Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will ensure the efficient day-to-day administration of the Hearth Place Signature and 3rdParty Fundraising events, as well as creating marketing campaigns and new corporate connections within our community.
Primary Responsibilities:
Fundraising and Financial Management
- Manage all Signature Events including, Planning, implementation and follow through for our 5 annual signature events, including establishing a work plan to achieve the financial objectives of all events as set out in the annual budget.
- Coordinate and attend all Hearth Place fundraising events including event set up and tear down. Maintain up to date event logistics, timelines and resource requirements.
- Develop marketing plans, promotion and public relations material for individual events, and special projects in collaboration with the Fundraising and Community Engagement Manager.
- Participate in and/or chair existing planning committees of Hearth Place events, as well coordinate volunteers for each event.
- Manage registrations, donor and sponsor lists and thank you correspondence for all events.
- Produce a Profit and Loss report following each event, as well as, produce a monthly financial report for the Board of Directors.
- Solicit donors for event sponsorships and event prizes.
- Contribute articles for the quarterly newsletter.
- Working with the Executive Director, grow our donor audience and create new and engaging events to align with the financial goals of the centre.
- Liaise with 3rdparty event coordinators, keep records of scheduling and attend events or schedule a designate if necessary.
Marketing and Social Media
- Enhance our presence and marketing opportunities on social media
- Prepare marketing materials, press releases and promotional materials as required.
- Maintain social media feeds, and donor recognition opportunities through our website and platforms.
Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 3-5 years of experience in non-profit fundraising event planning and marketing.
- High school diploma, Post-secondary education in Event Planning, business, computers or office management is an asset.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of Sumac database as well as graphic design software a definite asset.
- Familiarity with social media, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills are a must.
- Prior experience in a high-volume/fast-paced environment required.
- Must be a self-starter and comfortable with public presentations and representing Hearth Place to potential donors and sponsors.
- Must be comfortable working with a client group who are dealing with catastrophic illness.
- Knowledge of basic bookkeeping concepts.
- Professional, passionate, positive and dedicated to working collaboratively to build productive relationships and an effective team environment.
- Must have reliable vehicle and valid license.
- Must have a current Criminal Reference Check (Vulnerable Sector) and proof of double COVID-19 vaccine.
- Some heavy lifting may be required.
This position is full-time, working 36 hours per week. Monday through Thursday 9 - 5 and Fridays 9-1. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed for events.
