Job Description
The Senior Human Resources (HR) Generalist will play a pivotal role in the HR team by implementing best practices to support the achievement of business objectives. The Senior HR Generalist will drive the people element of the business, by coaching, supporting leadership and employees through employee engagement, talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, disability management, employee relations and interpretation of company policies.
The Senior (HR) Generalist will have a strong focus on talent acquisition and is responsible for delivering full–cycle facets of recruiting success throughout the organization. This will be achieved through the development of local, national, and North American recruiting plans, employing traditional sourcing strategies and resources as well as developing new, creative recruiting ideas. A key part of the role will be to build partnerships with people leaders to support talent management initiatives and plan for current and future hiring needs.
This role will be key in ensuring we are hiring the best possible talent and onboarding new hires in line with our culture and values.
Key Responsibilities:
Employee Relations and Employee Engagement:
- Provide coaching and resources to employees and managers with respect to career development, compensation, staffing initiatives, performance management and employee issues.
- Engage as a trusted adviser and subject matter expert to coach employees and managers on sensitive work-related issues related but not limited to conflict resolution.
- Support necessary course of action between managers and employees to drive positive outcomes.
- Conduct internal investigations and documents investigation for company files.
- Assist managers with disciplinary issues.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity through all courses of actions.
- Work collaboratively with HR team, management, and employees.
- Respond to employee questions, resolve, or escalate as required (via Zendesk – HR ticketing system).
- Assist employees and managers with interpretation of policies and procedures.
- Develop, participate, and communicate employee engagement initiatives.
- Participate and lead projects as assigned.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of company policy, culture, and values to make recommendations to help resolve complex and unique employment related issues.
Talent Acquisition:
- Build a positive Hiring Manager and candidate experience throughout the recruiting cycle from start to finish.
- Develop and implement talent strategies (internal & external) to achieve the most appropriate sourcing, evaluation, and selection of the most qualified and diverse talent.
- Manage process by identifying, selecting, assessing, and hiring candidates across various levels and roles.
- Lead the process in developing an employer brand in line with the EVP that is visible to the public and external partners and stakeholders.
- Assess existing and new recruitment sources to be used to attract talent into the organization.
- Research and recommend new sources for active and passive candidate recruiting.
- Build networks to find qualified passive candidates.
- Optimize the use of ATS, company website, social and professional networking sites to identify and source candidates.
- Obtain required position approvals, create job offers, and process documents with accuracy. Post openings on the career website, internet, with professional organizations, and in other position appropriate locations.
- Manage the weekly reporting process in addition to creating key metrics to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of the recruitment program and identify any gaps or areas of concern.
- Develop process maps and training guides to be used internally by HR and Hiring Managers.
- Manage Summer Student/Internship Program, Employee Referral Program, Career Fairs and Hiring Events.
- Build a fair, positive and equitable environment that supports a diverse workforce.
- Network through Industry Contacts, Association Memberships, Trade Groups and Employees.
Benefits and Disability Management:
- Administer benefits, workers compensation and leave of absence programs for Canadian and US employees.
- Responsible for the administration of the GRRSP including enrollments, terminations, and requests for withdrawal of funds.
- Oversee the US Open Enrollment Process.
- Involved with onboarding, terminations, and other changes in HRIS and benefit carrier websites.
- Administer the Disability Management Program by monitoring STD/LTD/FMLA absences and forwards all documentation to third party adjudicators and insurance carriers.
- Maintain communication with employees on leave of absence ensuring a return to work.
- Build relationships with vendors and brokers and works closely with them to address benefit inquiries, escalations, and employee communication.
- Conduct regular audits of the benefits and pension programs to ensure data integrity of the various databases.
- Participate in quarterly meetings and annual review regarding current trends to ensure that the Mircom Benefits Package is competitive.
- Responsible for auditing and the timely payment of invoices
- Review group insurance contracts and retirement plans to ensure compliance with legislative regulations and/or internal polices/procedures.
- Develop communication regarding retirement services and benefit programs including orientation package material. Also, ensures that changes/additions are communicated and/or reflected in communication vehicles as required.
- Oversee the implementation of the carrier feed from HRIS to benefit carrier websites.
- Advise and educate employees and managers on interpretation of benefit plan provisions and claims.
- Participate in the development and review of benefit plan policies.
Requirements and Skills:
- University Degree or College Diploma
- 5+ Years of HR Generalist Experience
- 3+ Years of Recruitment Experience
- Strong Customer Focus, Business Acumen and Understanding of Business Operations
- Ability to Execute Strategies and Tactics, Build Relationships, Organize Processes, and Think Analytically
- High Energy, Flexible, Detail Oriented and Adaptable Team Player
- Strong Understanding of Analytics and Presenting Key Metrics
- Ability to prioritize a high volume of open positions effectively
- Maintains strict confidentiality
- Excellent Communication, Interpersonal, and Presentation Skills
- Organized, with the Ability to Handle Multiple Tasks and Set Priorities in a Fast-Paced, High-Pressure Environment
- Proficiency in MS Office and Internet Application
- Experience Working in a Manufacturing Setting is an Asset
