Position Title: Human Resources Generalist
Reporting to: Executive Director
Working Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday. This position also requires working outside of regular operational hours including evenings and weekends.
Duration: This is a full time one year contract

About The Role
Reporting to the Executive Director, The Human Resources Generalist will coordinate, administer and report on various human resource programs, systems and procedures to aid in the attraction, retention and motivation of employees in accordance with policies, procedures and government laws and regulations while promoting a positive workplace culture. This position provides sensitive and strategic HR advice to the leadership team. The incumbent will develop and lead priority HR programs and initiatives in areas such as diversity and inclusion, talent strategies, and leader development. The incumbent will have oversight over all HR programs, including talent acquisition, performance management, employee relations, compliance and all other facets of HR.
Responsibilities
- Execute on an HR operating plan in support of the organization’s strategy and manage daily operations of all HR related functions in the organization.
- Owning end to end employee experience at every stage in the employment cycle, from hire to departure, in alignment with our organization's values.
- Develop a talent acquisition strategy and practice, with oversight over organization-wide recruitment strategy, process and tools.
- In partnership with the Executive Director and Finance department, manage resource allocations and forecasting staffing needs across the organization.
- Develop HR programs and policies in areas including: recruitment and onboarding, Performance management, compensation review and management, compliance, training and development, labor relations, and health and safety.
- Drive cultural transformation and employee engagement across the organization.
- Develop and monitor strategies to develop and maintain a healthy workplace culture including strategies, programs, and initiatives related to employee communications, engagement, and relations across all NEW’s programs and services.
- Evaluate HR department procedures to streamline and/or automate processes, improve customer service, reduce paper-flow, and improve human resources data management.
- Develop proactive and positive labor relations strategies and programs, and support with grievance handling, collective bargaining and negotiations, mediation and arbitration, and conflict resolution.
- Develop multi-year workforce plans with senior leadership that are based on the current and future needs of the organization, and in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan and funding projections.
- Develop agency-wide performance planning processes based on organizational targets and priorities.
- Develop employee business continuity and succession planning strategies.
- Support matters related to the supervision and evaluation of staff.
- Support Program Managers by providing sound coaching and advice on talent-related matters.
- Work with the leadership team to ensure optimal resource utilization and cross-department mobility.
- Participate in employee engagement and recognition initiatives to boost morale and create a rewarding work environment for all.
- Partner with the payroll team to ensure accurate processing and issue resolution.
- Elevate the quality and accountability of goal setting, employee training & development, and performance discussions.
- Manage benefits vendor relationships and annual processes (enrollment, audits, etc.).
- Lead the recruitment, hiring and onboarding process including, preparing job postings, screening resumes, maintaining candidate base, reference checks, taking part in interviews, employment contracts, police checks, and HR policy reviews with staff.
- Review, process and maintain HR information and employee documentations such as new hires, change of status, group benefits, and training.
- Oversee all volunteer management activities, Co-op and Summer Job grant positions ensuring that volunteers and co-op and summer students feel appreciated and recognized.
- Prepare employment letters/contracts.
- Establish and manage personnel files for each employee and contractor and ensure that all files are complete and up to date.
- Conduct an IT orientation and HR policies orientation for new employees.
- Contact and work with IT support when creating user accounts for new hires.
- Keep up to date with Ontario Labor Standards and other generally accepted HR practices.
- Ensure that HR policies are current, in compliance with labor standards and generally accepted HR practices and well communicated with all staff.
- Obtain the JHSC certificate and assume responsibility for the Joint Health and Safety Committee and the Health and Safety compliance of the organization.
- Develop, implement and evaluate ongoing HR policies and practices to ensure the agency implements leading management practices and complies with the collective agreement and all relevant legislation, (eg. Employment Standards Act, Health and Safety, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act)
- Participate in the management of WCB and disability claims by providing related advice and guidance, submitting select claims information, and overseeing the return-to-work process for individual employees.
- Administer employees leave of absence requests (family, medical, etc.) and requests for accommodation.
