Established in 1990, the Yellowknife Women’s Society (YKWS) functions as an important, grassroots community-based charitable organization located in Yellowknife, NT. YKWS is governed by a Board of Directors. The goal of the YKWS is to support and assist women, their families and other vulnerable individuals in empowering themselves to develop their goals, achieve wellness, enjoy equality, and be recognized for the contributions they make to the community.
The YKWS acknowledges we are located in Chief Drygeese territory. From time immemorial, it has been the traditional land of the Yellowknives Dene First Nation. We respect the histories, languages, and cultures of all Indigenous Peoples including the North Slave Métis, and all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit whose presence continues to enrich our vibrant community.
Summary
The Yellowknife Women’s Society owns and operates multiple programs and services in the city, which have expanded significantly over the last decade. YKWS strives to make a positive difference in the lives of the individuals we provide support to. Given that our organization has growth significantly over the last few years, we are now seeing a skilled HR Generalist to join our team and support our continued growth.
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will play a crucial role in carrying out the human resources function of the company while ensuring the effective management of our employees and the smooth functioning of the organization. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the success of a non-profit organization that is making a real impact in the community.
The Human Resources Generalist will be required to provide support to managers and coordinators of all of our programs: Work Ready, Centre for Northern Families Daycare, Raven’s Nest Daycare, Family Connections, Housing First/Rapid Rehousing, Street Outreach, Spruce Bough and the Women’s Centre. The incumbent may be required to drive or walk to and from each location.
The role will be a one (1) year term, with possibility of extension. We are open to receiving both fulltime and parttime resumes.

Responsibilities
- Ensure that management and staff are adhering to human resources policies, procedures, and applicable employment legislation (NT Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Act).
- Support full-cycle recruitment process including the posting of job ads, applicant screening, assisting with interviews and assisting the department manager with the hiring and onboarding process.
- Coordinate new employee onboarding, ensure necessary onboarding paperwork is completed.
- Administer benefit programs including enrollment, employee updates and inquiries.
- Provide administrative support for HR related tasks such as preparing reports, HR inquiries and data.
- Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on human resources policies, procedures and best practices.
- Support employee development and training initiatives, including identifying training needs, coordinating training programs and evaluating effectiveness.
- Manage employee relations, including addressing employee concerns.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records.
- Ensure compliance with employment regulations.
- Stay informed about human resources trends and best practices to provide proactive recommendations and continuous improvement of the human resources process; and
- Other duties, as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Human Resources Management or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1 - 2 year’s experience working as an HR Administrator, HR Coordinator or HR Generalist.
- Must be a self starter and must work well autonomously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Must be physically able to work on a computer for up to 8 hours a day, 5 days a week.
