Salary: $75,000 - $85,000 per annum
Travel: Some travel required between Ottawa and Toronto office

Amnesty International Canadian Section (English Speaking), also known as AICSES, is seeking to hire a People and Culture Associate. This role is primarily responsible for cultivating a culture of excellence and actively promoting an inclusive and equitable work environment.
Reporting to the Manager of People Experience, the People and Culture Associate is responsible for providing comprehensive support to the daily operations of the Equity, People and Culture team, contributing to the efficient and professional delivery of programs, processes, and services. The successful candidate will have both administrative and strategic responsibilities, helping the organization to plan and administer important functions such as recruitment, training and development, HRIS management, policies and procedures, performance management and health and safety. This role will require a heightened level of discretion, comprehensive knowledge of employment legislation, and contribute to a performance-based, supportive and engaged culture.
AICES is currently undergoing significant organizational change, which includes implementing our new 2022-2030 strategic priorities, within the context of a changing hybrid workforce. The successful candidate must bring a deep and abiding commitment to tackling systemic issues affecting historically marginalized employees and communities with a specific lens of intersectional anti-racism, anti-oppression, feminism, and accessibility to external and internal work. This includes an ability to proactively support in building an environment that reflects Amnesty International Canada’s promotion of a culture of respect, equity, and fairness.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Support Amnesty’s Equity, People and Culture programs including but not limited to recruitment and onboarding; goal setting and performance management; learning and development; employee engagement; employee and labour relations
- Creation and overall management of relevant HR policies and procedures
- Support with maintenance and onboarding of HRIS information systems (HUMI)
- Providing clear information on workplace complaints and accommodations
- Support the full-cycle recruitment process; prepare job postings, perform pre-screening as requested, coordinate scheduling, and conduct interviews and reference checks
- Act as a point of contact in advising management regarding HR programs, practices, policies, grievance matters, and interpretation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement
- Complete and file all WSIB forms and support return to work process
- Function as the go to person for any HR related queries, all-staff communication, upkeep of HR policies, staff directory, and organizational chart
- Ensure compliance with employment legislations, health and safety regulations and the Collective Bargaining Agreement
- Collaborate in the development of new HR programs and the review and improvement of HR processes.
- Maintain employee files by ensuring all required documentation is provided and up to date.
- Contribute to overall employee engagement through coordinating and supporting the logistical components of Amnesty’s learning and development program
- Performs HR administrative duties such as track and remind managers and coordinating with payroll on contract end dates, required probationary and annual performance reviews, and annual step increases
- Support employee wellbeing through coordinating ergonomic assessments, ordering ergonomic furniture and working closely with the Manager of Equity, People and Culture to support accommodation requests and needs
- Support organizational strategic decision making through the administration and data analysis of reports
- Work closely with the Manager of Equity, People and Culture to operationalize Amnesty’s goal setting and performance management process and tools to drive accountability
- Administer employee surveys to identify opportunities for improvement, collect feedback from staff and recommend initiatives and changes to support a psychologically safe workplace.
- Participate on compensation data surveys as required
- Perform other administrative duties as assigned
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR IN A CANDIDATE

QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate degree with a specialization in Human Resources, a CHRL designation or the equivalent combination of 3 years of education, professional certification, and professional work experience (CHRP or equivalent designation an asset)
- Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and advancing equity or anti-racism strategies
- Recent and at minimum at least 2 years of experience in employee and labour relations particularly unionized work environments
- Minimum 3 years of progressive HR Associate or HR Generalist experience with a focus on supporting full-cycle recruitment, including recruitment, employment, onboarding, performance management, and compensation practices
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as Visio, training platforms, and HRIS
- Demonstrated knowledge of employment legislation including employment standards act, occupational health and safety, and human rights legislation
- Demonstrate professionalism and good judgement with ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and discretion
- Self-directed, work independently with minimal supervision, performs well in ambiguous situations
- Diplomatic communication and listening skills to help obtain trust, cooperation, and build understanding to resolve complex matters
- Excellent organizational skills, and strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent ability to focus and produce quality work with multiple competing deadlines
- Proven experience in supporting organizational decision making through data gathering and analysis
- Work autonomously and possesses the ability to determine a sensible approach to a problem in the absence of established policy, process, or procedure
- Proven ability to work successfully with a diverse population and in applying anti-racism, anti-oppression, diversity, equity, and inclusion principles
- Proven ability to apply an intersectional lens to your work to achieve anti-oppression in practice
- Prior non-profit experience considered an asset
