We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Legal Assistant to join our team (Personal Injury). In this role, you will be responsible for providing legal and administrative assistance to the Team’s lawyers and other staff. You will be expected to use your knowledge of legal practices and procedures to ensure that all work is done accurately and efficiently and in accordance with the firm’s conduct.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Review intake forms and create file opening memos.
- Prepare legal documents such as pleadings, motions, notices and settlement agreements.
- Create and maintain various charts such as the Medical Brief Index, Production List, and Undertaking Chart.
- Manage personal injury cases, including maintaining case files and tracking deadlines.
- Organize and arrange hospital records and clinical notes in chronological order.
- Communicate professionally with clients, witnesses, and opposing counsel.
- Assist in investigating cases, reviewing medical records, and interviewing witnesses.
- Maintain a comprehensive database or system to track and manage discovery documents, responses, and deadlines.
- Aid in LAT applications & trial preparation by organizing exhibits, coordinating expert testimony, and preparing trial materials.
- Prepare summaries and chronologies of medical records to assist attorneys in understanding the extent of injuries and their impact on the client's case.
- Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling, correspondence, and filing.
- Ensure compliance with court rules and procedures, including e-filing when applicable.
Qualifications
- 3 - 5 years of experience
- Bachelor’s degree in law or a related field
- Paralegal/Law clerk diploma an asset
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Knowledge of OCF Forms, LAT applications & Tort pleadings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other legal software
- Familiarity with case management software and e-filing systems
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work independently
