About YouthLink
YouthLink Calgary Police Interpretive Centre is a non-profit organization and a registered police museum where crime prevention, community policing, education and history are at the heart of everything we do. The innovative Centre is a leader in youth education and crime prevention and plays an important role in the education of youth and families. The Centre also houses the historical collection and archives of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) and showcases the history of the Service dating back to 1885.
Position Profile
As the marketing manager, you will play an integral role in promoting YouthLink and showcasing our impact in a captivating and compelling way. You will work closely with other YouthLink teams (visitor experience, programs, CPS etc.) to understand their areas of operation, their audiences and how to reach them, and assist with creative writing for promotional content, where/when needed. We are looking for an energetic team player who can juggle multiple projects and adapt to the changing environment. We need someone who is flexible, open to change and willing to help us create truly exceptional marketing and communications materials.
Specifically, the Marketing Manager will be:
- Working closely with the Executive Director, you will be responsible for understanding the organization's strategic priorities and initiatives to develop and direct the organization's marketing and communication strategy.
- Understand how our organization fits into the strategic direction of the CPS.
- Responsible for creating and implementing media relations plans to promote the museum’s gift shop, exhibitions, programs and events including developing and maintaining strategic alliances with appropriate media and tourism industry.
- You will understand target market communications and choose the appropriate channel for messages and best practice in cross-channel communications.
- Create annual marketing department budget and monitor and evaluate all marketing and communications activities to ensure goals are achieved via KPI’s, budgets are adhered to, and growth can be benchmarked and built upon.
- Conduct quarterly Market Research Reports to identify opportunities for YouthLink to optimize brand and plan key initiatives to leverage relationships.
- Develop community relations, strategic partnerships and collaborations with like minded institutions, along with maintaining strong partnerships with internal stakeholders across various departments.
- Identify, develop and evaluate marketing strategy, based on established YouthLink objectives.
- Develop and implement brand messaging such that brand voice is consistent.
- Provide support to marketing team with shooting and editing videos for social media and development of materials necessary to communicate overall digital strategy.
- Proficient with graphic design modalities and provide support to the marketing team with visualizing and creating graphics, illustrations, logos, layouts and shaping visual aspects of YouthLink’s website.
- Writing and editing all communications and marketing material including (but not limited to) web content, social media content, reports to community, promotional items, annual reports, news releases, key messages, etc. and managing production of items (like printed posters, brochures or pull up banners), in support of the organization’s strategic vision and objectives.
- Represents YouthLink Calgary across all forms of media as well as coordinates opportunities for a variety of media interaction, including news conferences and other events to attract media interest.
- Build and maintain relationships with local media for YouthLink and respond to requests in an approved, appropriate and timely manner.
- The Marketing & Communications Manager will be a natural story-teller – with the ability to identify the who, what, where and why of the many programs and services YouthLink offers.
- Supervise, train, coach and develop staff to support marketing activities.
Qualifications
- Degree in public relations, communications, marketing and/or a related professional designation or certificate.
- A minimum of five years related marketing management and supervisory experience is required, preferably in a non-profit setting.
- Previous experience in digital marketing and social media engagement.
- Exceptional writing and communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills: non-judgmental listening skills; ability to deal with people from diverse backgrounds and identities; must be able to work as part of a team.
- Ability to organize people and activities and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, direct reports, community groups, and other key contacts.
- Demonstrated proficiency and experience in use of computer systems including photoshop, InDesign, wordpress, and other related software.
- Ability to take projects from concept through to final production.
- Propensity to liaise with subject matter experts to ensure marketing material reflects current social, crime and pedagogical trends.
- Considerable knowledge of print production and pre-press knowledge.
- Demonstrated experience in developing and monitoring budgets.
- Exceptional copywriting, editing and proofreading skills.
- Experience in market research, analysis and reporting.
- Substantial experience working with the media to achieve marketing/media relations goals.
- High regard for accuracy and attention to detail with excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a varied and dynamic workload.
- A person of integrity; committed to upholding professional ethics and encouraging public relations best practices.
- Passionate about youth education and learning.
Additional Information
- This is a full-time position working 35-hour work week, from Monday to Friday. The person in this position may be asked to work weekends and evenings on occasion and may be asked to attend external presentations and events.
- A CPS enhanced security clearance is a condition of employment for this position.
