Job Description
Do you have a love for genetics and an interest in the genetic counselling profession? The Genetics & Genomics (G&G) South laboratories at the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary have an exciting opportunity for a Genetic Counselling Assistant position. G&G provides clinical genetic testing for a broad range of inherited conditions, serving an important role in the provision of genetic services for the province of Alberta. As a Genetic Counselling Assistant within the Calgary G&G, you will work as a member of the laboratory team, providing support to the laboratory genetic counsellors and other laboratory staff. You will primarily support the Genetic Resource Centre (GRC), a division of G&G that coordinates out-of-province genetic testing. Within this role, you will communicate directly with ordering healthcare providers to facilitate genetic testing for Alberta patients. You will work closely with the laboratory genetic counsellors and help coordinate the review of funding requests from healthcare providers across Alberta. You will be the primary contact for the GRC, managing the email inbox and phone line for the program, addressing questions about requests, and following up with health care providers. You may additionally support the genetic counsellors/laboratory staff as a liaison between the G&G laboratories and other health care providers.
As a Genetic Assistant you will work as a member of the laboratory team to provide information and technical support to the genetic counselors and laboratory staff. You will track clinical outcomes, review requisitions and draft communication documents including form letters and information sheets.
