Job Description
Reporting to the Clinical Team Lead, the Nurse Practitioner (RN-EC) will be mainly based out of our New Liskeard Clinic with support to our Kirkland Lake Clinic site on a weekly/as needed basis (company vehicle provided for travel). The Nurse Practitioner will provide primary health care services to clients of the Centre with emphasis on disease prevention, health promotion/education and empowerment/self-management. As an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Nurse Practitioner will practice within her/his full scope of practice as outlined in the Standards of Practice by the College of Nurses of Ontario. Services Provided by the Nurse Practitioner will honour, respect and support Indigenous culture, values and healing practices complimented by western approaches to primary health care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Effectively functions as a member of our Interprofessional health team
- Provides ongoing comprehensive primary health care to clients of all ages in a holistic approach and in an environment that respects Indigenous beliefs and traditions
- Maintains documentation standards in the electronic medical record
- Responsible for maintaining clinical competency in primary care, incorporating current and relevant knowledge and research findings into clinical practice
- Responsible and accountable for meeting and maintaining the Standards of Practice as outlined in legislation and regulations that apply to clinical practice in Ontario (i.e CNO, RNAO, NPAO, Regulated Health Professions Act, Mental Health Act and Professional Health Information Protection Act)
- Maintains membership in professional organizations such as RNAO, NPAO
- Includes reflective practice and quality improvement activities in care delivery as directed by the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Maintains confidentiality of all client, staff, and volunteers in accordance with Mino M’shki-ki policies
- Collaborates in implementation of organizational policies and procedures, reporting unusual situations that may require additional thought to implement
- Actively promotes the application of traditional Indigenous teachings such as Medicine Wheel and Seven Grandfather teachings in service delivery
- Collaborates in team meetings to share performance data and solicit input from team on results
- Ensures a “Team Approach” is maintained at all levels of interaction within Clinical Services provided at Mino M’shki-ki
- Provides a wholistic approach to health care
Qualifications:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse in the Extended Class without restrictions with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
- Knowledge of Indigenous history and sensitivity to Indigenous issues with the willingness to learn and accept diversity of Indigenous cultures and teachings
- Demonstrated skill in conflict management and negotiation
- Knowledge of community agencies and services
- Excellent problem-solving ability with sound judgment
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to create a supportive and positive environment for staff and volunteers
- Fluent in Indigenous language an asset
Additional Requirements:
- Must be able to travel and hold a valid driver’s license
- A clear Criminal Record Check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) will be a condition of the employment offer
