New employees must provide documentation/proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status, a 2-step TB screening, as well as proof of immunity to measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chickenpox) prior to their start date at St. Mary’s General Hospital. Staff will require clearance from Employee Health and Wellness before they are able to begin any position within SMGH.
Position Summary :
The Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner (RN-EC) functions in an expanded role demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skill to formulate clinical decisions and appropriately manage acute/chronic illness and promote wellness within the NP’s area of specialty (i.e., Geriatrics). The expanded role involves collecting and interpreting data about the health of the patient, determining a medical diagnosis and treating complex responses of individuals and families to actual or potential problems. The NP performs quality improvement and administrative activities and participates in policy and procedure development. Other key components of the role may include performing research activities; delivering, coordinating and participating in education and professional development activities/programs; performing activities to further develop and strengthen the profession; acting as a resource and serving as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community and other hospital/agencies .
Position Requirements:
- Completion of Nurse Practitioner program and a commitment to achieve Masters level of education
- Registration, in good standing, with the College of Nurses of Ontario in the Extended Class
- Geriatric Nurse Certification and Emergency Nurse Certification (GNC (c) & Emergency Nurse certification (c))
- Minimum three (3) years' recent experience in geriatric / emergency nursing
- Member of RNAO with additional professional liability coverage (i.e., RNAO-LAP); additional relevant professional memberships are an asset
- Current ACLS certification
- Clinical experience in primary care health settings with elderly medically complex patients and their families is an asset
- Functional knowledge of research methodology is an asset
- Experience/confidence in working independently, with high degree of self-direction and strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) including conflict resolution skills
- Demonstrated ability to work as a member of the interdisciplinary team
- Ability to use information technology
- Evident commitment to ongoing education
