About CASA
CASA Mental Health is an established non-profit organization delivering holistic, culturally-safe wrap-around mental health services to Albertans and their families. CASA provides mental health service to the missing middle – mental health treatment for diagnosed children and youth, in between prevention and promotion in primary and community care, and acute treatment in hospital.
CASA’s team of mental health professionals are trauma experts committed to delivering service in collaboration with community partners. This includes assessment and treatment for up to 4,000 children, youth and their families each year, from community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.
About the Role
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Payroll Assistant is responsible for assisting the Payroll Coordinator with full cycle payroll and benefits processing. They will ensure prompt and accurate processing of payroll information and payments to employees, government agencies and benefits carriers in accordance with legislated employment regulations and CASA’s collective agreement. They will assist with all payroll and benefits administration activities and work collaboratively with the Human Resources team.
The Payroll Assistant will:
- Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll for in-scope and out-of-scope staff.
- Assist with monitoring timesheet and payroll inboxes.
- Set up new and update existing employee profiles in payroll system (including pension amounts, regular scheduled hours/rotation, pay rate and benefit premiums).
- Provide effective responses to external and internal inquiries related to pay and benefits in a timely manner.
- Gather timesheets and ensure proper approvals are in place.
- Process accruals and maintain records of entitlements and usage of vacation, sick and other paid leaves in payroll system.
- Enter time in KIS payroll system in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and CASA’s collective agreement.
- Complete ad-hoc tasks as required.

Qualifications
- Post-secondary education with a focus in accounting. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Outlook).
- Minimum of one to two years of payroll experience.
- Experience with payroll processing in a unionized environment is an asset.
- Strong numerical aptitude, excellent organization and communication skills and an attention to detail is required.
- Capable of building strong working relationships.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, integrity and professionalism while working with other departments to process payroll.

- A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
