POV provides technical training, skills development, and social support to talented young people, who are driven and have a desire to work in these industries but lack relevant work experience and the financial capacity required to pursue their passions and aspirations.
Who you are:
You are a creative from the African, Black and/or Caribbean diaspora with experience working on professional TV and film sets and are well equipped to train 20 creatives from the African, Black and/or Caribbean communities to develop the skills and knowledge needed to work as a Production Assistant
In addition to facilitating some of the workshops, the Project Lead is responsible for developing lesson plans, collaborating with the Programs Team to develop learning assets, coordinating program volunteers, booking equipment and resources while the ensuring smooth delivery of the Production Assistant training program.
Core Function of the Role:
POV is running an eight-week Production Assistant training program for Black youth aged 18-29. The program will provide the requisite technical skills, set etiquette and production knowledge needed to enter into the TV, film and/or commercial industries as a Production Assistant. As the Project Lead, you have experience working on professional TV and film sets and are well equipped to train 20 program participants to develop the skills and knowledge needed to work as a PA with the support of a soft skills trainer and industry volunteers. The Project Lead is responsible for coordinating program volunteers, equipment and resources and ensuring smooth delivery of the program. After the eight weeks of training, the Project Lead will be responsible for coordinating participant placements on professional sets over the course of four weeks.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
Project Coordination - 60%
- Support Program Manager to lead and implement industry relevant program syllabus.
- Deliver the production assistant training workshops with the support of volunteer instructors.
- Must have sound knowledge on key program training topics including Gear and Supplies Orientation, Production terminology, Walkie Talkie training, Overview of production departments, Set procedure & etiquette, Set safety, Production paperwork, Locations PA training vs. Set PA training vs. Office PA training, Film and TV versus commercials/videos/low budget P.A.
- Produce and manage half-day “mock productions” with a skeleton crew as part of training
- Organize required resources necessary for delivering each program workshop including gear, TTC tickets and food for program participants.
- Support Program Manager in recruiting and managing program volunteers and guest instructors
- Support Community Supports Liaison in recruiting and managing program participants
- Coordinate field trips and “Discovery Days” to sets and production houses, as applicable
- Maintain regular communication with program participants to ensure they are up to date on all program activities, locations and timelines, with assistance from POV’s Community Supports Liaison
Job Development - 25%
- Support Program Manager to find and secure PA opportunities for program graduates
- Liaise with production companies to coordinate the placements of students on set
- Follow up with employers and participants with feedback surveys
- Support participants with employment-related questions
- Maintain consistent and professional communication with employers and industry volunteers
- Collaborate with POV’s Community Supports Liaison to review any additional participant needs
Administration - 15%
- Ensure timely data entry, reporting and documentation to Program Manager
- Assist in the development, implementation and coordination of program evaluation
Required skills and experiences:
- 3+ years of experience working on Film & TV sets in a role that has hired, managed or worked with Production Assistants.
- Exceptional knowledge of production terminology, set procedure, roles and safety.
- Experience working with youth from vulnerable populations and marginalized communities
- Resourcefulness and problem solving skills
- Experience teaching or facilitating workshops for youth and/or emerging creatives
