Provides graphic design support for high priority initiatives and projects while assisting with the planning and execution of behaviour change campaigns for the Population and Public Health portfolio. Designs and prepares various materials and content; manipulates illustrations, photos, audio, video and/or text to capture desired effect; arranges for printing of materials/digital production; manages the image bank and provides project management support for relevant projects as required.
Assists in planning and delivering campaigns and provides creative input into strategies and approaches that have a proven record of working for the given target audience. Assists with presentations to internal clients, offering insights into why the proposed creative solutions were chosen.
Responsibilities:- Designs materials and creative content to support strategic priority initiatives for the Population and Public Health department. Designs a variety of material including templates, posters, brochures, pamphlets, information postcards; animated/video presentations; receives and helps gather information such as intended message, content details, expected audience, budget and design concepts and prepares rough layouts by hand and/or computer software programs; layout in appropriate software packages; manipulates text and/or graphics to ensure intended message has been captured; edits for visual consistency taking into consideration reproduction methods.
- Presents layouts of concepts to Social Marketing Consultant and to internal client groups for discussion and approval.
- Provides input and assists with the planning and where relevant, strategies, for behaviour change campaigns.
- Manipulates illustrations and photos, video and/or sound; accesses items through a variety of sources including the internet, graphic software and/or scanning image into computer; manages the image bank, image editing and layout; creates illustrations using appropriate graphic software; ensure objects are drawn to scale; assists with still photography and videography as required.
- Participates in briefs, group meetings and presentations; assists with coordination of planning meetings or workshops as required; helps ensure the Social Marketing team has the necessary information from internal clients to move forward.
- Collaborates with writers and production to develop solid conceptual ideas and formats that implement strategy and direction from the brief.
- Arranges for printing of materials by methods such as setting item up as reader spreads and printer spreads, transfers spreads to disk, contacts printing to discuss timelines and special needs; completes requisition forms and provides disk(s) for reproduction.
- Plans, tracks and researches external vendors; coordinates production and scheduling, prepares cost scenarios; obtains and reviews quotes within designated budget, ensures fiscal responsibility on costs for all printed and digital projects. Maintains quality and budget control throughout every stage of the creative and production process.
- Provides technical advice and guidance to staff on page layout and visual elements as required.
- Researches a variety of sources such as the internet, graphic software, books and magazines to obtain graphic illustrations for use in productions; obtains copies and ensures compliance with copyright rules and compiles/maintains resource portfolios; file management.
- Coordinates production and scheduling with external vendors. Partners with production to ensure development of formats that achieve the strategic objectives outlined in the brief and maximizes the use of the production budget.
- Edits copy for digital and print materials, ensures complete accuracy and obtains final approvals as required.
- Creates animation/video(s), captures video, and records audio, manipulates animation/video/sound files.
Qualifications: Education and Experience
Diploma in Graphic Communications Technology, Graphic Design or related field. Three to five years of graphic design experience including two years' experience involving campaign planning and execution in video and film production and/or design of print and digital marketing materials such as brochures, posters, direct mail, electronic media, and signage.

Salary range: The salary range for this position is CAD $30.87/Hr. - $44.37/Hr. / hour
