Medicine Hat College invites applications for a Mental Health Programmer within the Student Services department. This contract position is a seasonal appointment working 35 hours per week from August 21, 2023 to June 14, 2024. This position is government funded until 2024 and renewal will be subject to further funding.
The Mental Health Programmer will implement, promote and deliver mental health strategies and programming to support students at Medicine Hat College. This includes campaigns and programs that provide a supportive, inclusive campus climate and environment, mental health literacy improvement and screening measures, sexual violence response and awareness, mental wellness promotion and mental illness prevention. The position is required to develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationships with students, staff and the community to ensure students have access to resources.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g. Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Health Promotion)
- Mental Health specific certificates are considered an asset, such as Applied Suicide Intervention and Skills Training, Mental Health First Aid, or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
- A minimum of 2 years related experience is required.
- Knowledge of and experience with mental health practices that promote flourishing and optimal health is an asset, including best practices for sexual violence response.
- Knowledge of mental illness and disorders.
- An understanding of post-secondary student requirements and experience.
- Knowledge of crisis response procedures, community referrals, network development.
- Ability to create educational tools that facilitate and support learning and acceptance.
- An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.
Term of Appointment: August 21, 2023 – June 14, 2024
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
Pay rate: $30.00 gross per hour
