Job Description BCIT’s Campus Planning and Facilities department is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Senior Project Coordinator. This position plans, coordinates and monitors the work of external architects, professional engineers, consultants and contractors. The role implements all aspects of approved construction projects. The position ensures timely, cost effective delivery of quality services and satisfaction of the customer group within the guidelines of the Institute Education and Campus Master Plan. This position also plans, conducts and updates comprehensive audits of building conditions, systems and structures at the Burnaby, Aerospace and Marine Campus locations.Duties & ResponsibilitiesDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for the management, coordination, and implementation of multiple construction projects valuing up to 1.5 Million dollars.Establish and analyze customer requirements and develop project plans, scope of work, budget, and schedule.Facilitate, direct, and instruct consultants in the preparation of projects within the established Institute standards and guidelines, municipal codes, WorkSafeBC regulations and other applicable government regulations to ensure that all requirements and financial commitments are met.Collaborate and review with the Campus Planning and Facilities department, the reports, specifications and drawings of current and proposed projects.Acquire, review and award Registered Professional consulting service contracts.Design and prepare tender documents and construction contract drawings and specifications.Arrange for risk assessments and/or hazardous material sampling at project initiation to advise occupants, consultants and contractors of potential risks.Administer the tender process including the preparation, issue, review and award of the construction contract.Oversee project costs, authorize payment for completed work, and prepare change orders to scope, complete and prepare reports and costs analyses.Administer construction contract, maintain project schedule, report and monitor construction progress and continuously update the stakeholders.Maintain strong communications with the customer group, consultants, contractors and other service departments at each stage of the project and ensuring that the completed project meets the customers overall satisfaction.Collaborate construction activities with customer group, utilities, and governmental agencies and ensure the work schedule has minimum disruption to other Institute activities.Recommend a course of action and offer an informed opinion to the customer group, consultants and contractors to solve technical problems for the project.Execute construction closeout including arranging for final clean up, testing and commissioning, final inspection and approvals, and ensuring timely correction of deficiencies.Plan and conduct the comprehensive audit of conditions of buildings, systems and structures. Analyze results and recommend action plans to ensure continued economic operation, including cost estimates and priorities and applies for Municipal Building permits and other related permits as necessary for each projectParticipate as a team leader to conduct detailed Facility Audits to develop the Capital Submission Plan, including evaluating conditions of buildings, structural integrity and safety and establish priorities for the Capital renewal planning.Participate in Records Custodian training and remains current with record keeping practices, policies and procedures (both BCIT and FOIPOP).Undertake related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of this position.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:Definition:The qualifications section was developed using the agreed to job evaluation plan between BCIT and the BCGEU. The qualifications represent the minimum qualifications required in the future and do not reflect the incumbent’s existing qualifications.Education:Diploma of Technology (Architectural, Building, Engineering Technology) or Certificate of Recognition National Council of Interior Designers Qualification plus 2 additional years training in a related Facilities Management certification program or equivalent.Experience:Two years’ general construction experience plus four years’ experience in developing and administering projects and plans. Demonstrated knowledge of codes and industry standards. Ability to manage construction projects, including ability to lead a team of professionals, contractors and internal clients. Software/Computer Application(s) and Expertise:Intermediate to advanced experience using a variety of software packages such as AutoCAD, Archibus, Microsoft Office and related databases.Communication/Interpersonal Skills:Superb written and oral communications. Must be a team player with a customer service focus.Administrative Skills (e.g. prioritizing, minute taking, wp speed, etc.):Must be able to work to and within tight deadlines and approved project budgets. Strong conceptual thinking and problem solving skills.
