Project Engineering Manager, Mining, Minerals & Metals
Purpose:
Reporting to the V.P Project Delivery this position will develop, execute, supervise, and coordinate all technical aspects of the work safely with primary focus on the integrity/quality of the engineering design while achieving schedule and budget objectives. Acts as a key technical interface with the client.
Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Demonstrate leadership by promoting OneWay Integrity Framework in all aspects of the role. Act as Business Unit (BU) champion for OneWay Element 6 – Engineering.
- Actively promote a robust succession plan for Engineering Leadership Team and SME’s
- Responsible for all aspects of the technical design, client contact/selling and project management. Provide leadership and be the BU focal point on all engineering matters.
- Promote EcoNomics™ and integrate Sustainable Project Delivery (SPD) tools.
- Champion Lean delivery processes to minimize bureaucracy at optimal cost. Present alternative technical solutions to meet client requirements more efficiently.
- Ensure timely delivery of the WorleyParsons Performance Management process and including Individual Development Plans for all direct and indirect members of the Engineering team.
- Monitor, forecast and provide engineering and design resources requirement for the BU.
- Supervise, coach, mentor and direct the development of the Department Managers. Focus on developing the teams with World-class resources, capability and experience.
- Develop a yearly budget forecast for the entire Engineering Department, including the Training program and stewardship of the implementation of a Lean Home Office.
- Coach department managers and discipline leads with Workshare Best Practices and challenge them to identify work that can be shared to meet Client project deliverables when BU staffing resources are constrained.
- Support Improve and Major Projects and ensure that both groups are provided with an appropriate level of support.
- Support Local/Global model with regular review of BU technical capability and tools.
- Responsive to customer needs; and providing optimum solutions customized for them.
- Ensure that all technical designs and proposals are to the highest standard to ensure client satisfaction and built to industry and safety codes. Carry out technical peer reviews of projects and take necessary corrective actions wherever necessary.
Relationships
- Champion of a seamless and integrated team between Engineering, Project Management, Procurement and Construction Management.
- Support CRM and PM customer interfaces when required to represent the Engineering team. Meeting with potential and existing clients as required and assisting in strategic sales efforts from a technical perspective. Accountable for the nomination of properly qualified engineering and design personnel for projects proposals.
- Work collaboratively with BU and ECO Shared Services to ensure open and respectful work environment. Encourage the resolution of issues and concerns at the working level prior to escalation to the management team.
- Align BU Best Practices with counterparts within ECO as well as other Managers of Engineering across Canada and WorleyParsons in general.
What you will bring
Technical and Industry Experience:
- Lead / senior level years of mining industry experience with excellent skills in the mining industry
- Experience in delivering large projects in the execution phase
- Strong understanding of multi-discipline engineering delivery
- Detailed knowledge of the application of relevant Management and Knowledge System Engineering processes
- Supervision and leadership skills (management/leadership experience, ability to direct and influence a team, exceptional performance with regards to all aspects of communication, proven ability to delegate work, good judgment and ability to make good decisions, ability to mentor and steward individuals, effectively deliver performance feedback).
- Planning / Analysis / Coordination skills and experience (analyze existing systems/procedures and recommend solutions and lead improvement strategies, prioritization of work, coordinate change, implement procedures / procedural change, follows up on planned work and changes).
- Well-rounded understanding of all engineering disciplines (knows the industry, has a good understanding of Worley systems and work processes, works well with others, proven focus on execution, strong commitment to quality and safety).
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
Required:
- Recognized Engineering degree (or equivalent) and P.Eng./PE/PL status is desired.
