About Sophia Recovery Centre:
Sophia Recovery Centre is a place where women whose lives have been impacted by addictions find support for long term recovery and wellness. Our staff include women with lived and learned experience. We provide gender-responsive, trauma-informed care. As a client-centred organization, we embrace multiple pathways to recovery and offer a variety of evidence-based programs. Our services include individualized peer support and counseling, structured recovery groups and a range of social and wellness programs. Drop in hours and activities at each centre provide safe spaces for women to make connections with staff peers, volunteers and each other.
The position:
A Sophia Recovery Peer draws on personal lived experience to provide individualized support for women who are seeking recovery from addiction. In addition, facilitating social and wellness programs for groups is a part of this role. The Recovery Peer may also support therapist-led recovery group work. Currently, we have openings in our Saint John and Kennebecasis Valley locations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- As part of the SRC team, welcome new and returning clients.
- Provide online, telephone and in-person information and support in one on one and group settings
- Maintain strict client confidentiality at all times
- Participate in staff meetings
- Maintain accurate documentation, reporting, and data collection
- Assist with answering the door and phone as required
- Assist with responding to email and social media inquiries
- Attend functions/community events to promote the Centre and serve as an ambassador for SRC at all times in the community by promoting awareness and representing SRC in a positive light
- As part of the SRC team, assist with upkeep of Centre including, when necessary, cleaning, picking up supplies, garbage collection
- Participate in organizational training and professional development as recommended by Executive Director
- Adhere to all SRC policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned by Executive Director
Key Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:
- Lived experience of the impacts of addiction and recovery
- Minimum human services counselor diploma or similar training
- 1 - 2 years experience in a peer support role or other similar role (eg teaching, coaching, human services)
- Computer skills and good knowledge and experience with MS Office programs
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, ability to plan, organize and prioritize activities
- Ability to use empathy and active listening skills to build trust
- Comfortable providing support as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team
- Good judgment in respecting limits and boundaries of a peer support role
- Strong work ethic and high energy level
- Ability to work well under pressure; comfortable working in crisis situations;
- Resiliency, ability to utilize stress management and self care tools as needed
- Flexible and open to continuous learning
Working Conditions:
- Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate evenings and weekends when required for programs, events, training and professional development
- Ability to do some light lifting
- Ability to work within close proximity to co-workers and clients
- Ability to stand, walk, sit and reach with hands and arms for extended period of time
- Valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $18.00-$21.50 per hour
