About the Organization
Abuse Never Becomes Us (A.N.B.U.) அன்பு, is a Registered Charity organization that works with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) within the Tamil community and aims to respond to sexual violence through culturally and linguistically appropriate programs and services. Our mandate is to provide holistic support to promote healing with adult survivors as well as raise awareness and build capacity through collaborations and partnerships with the community. A.N.B.U. is seeking a Registered Social Worker or Psychotherapist with formal training in Art Therapy for our pilot project under the A.N.B.U. Group Therapy Model.
Job Description:
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Registered Social Worker or Registered Psychotherapist to lead a first-of-its-kind research project focused on developing a group therapy model for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse in the Tamil diaspora community within the GTA. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact by facilitating and building awareness around healing for adult survivors and providing a safe space where they can find their voice and better understand the impact of sexual violence. Your expertise in trauma-informed care, cultural competence, and facilitation will play a crucial role in building this pilot project.
Responsibilities:
- Provide knowledge and clinical insights to support A.N.B.U. in adapting an existing therapy module/manual into a more culturally and linguistically appropriate program for adult survivors in the Tamil diaspora.
- Recruit prospective group participants, monitor need for individual sessions and refer to appropriate community programs and services when A.N.B.U. is not a good fit.
- Conduct in-person group therapy sessions for survivors of childhood sexual abuse in the Tamil community, utilizing trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approaches.
- Provide 1:1 counseling as needed to accommodate any additional support that participants may require.
- Prepare, evaluate and adapt Art Therapy treatment plans for group participants and individual sessions.
- Create a safe and supportive environment for participants to share their experiences, process trauma, and foster healing.
- Document sessions and report observations and reflections about modalities, processes, and effectiveness to inform program improvement efforts, and to support research objectives.
- Liaise between project participants and team members to ensure new/emerging community needs and supports are met.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of all session activities, including session reports, protocols, and consent forms.
- Liaise with Project and Research Coordinator to ensure materials, resources and all supplies required to conduct sessions are organized and available as needed.
- Support implementation of evaluation activities developed by an external evaluator.
- Engage in necessary internal and external training and support activities organized by A.N.B.U. to enhance understanding of trauma-informed care and cultural competence.
- Adhere to PHIPA guidelines and maintain client confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- Graduate level education in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Registered and in good standing with a Professional College of Ontario (Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or the College of Registered Psychotherapist of Ontario preferred).
- Cleared Police Vulnerability Check to work with vulnerable clients and a Valid Professional Liability Insurance.
- Minimum of five years clinical experience providing therapy to children, adolescents, and/or adults.
- Experience in providing trauma-informed counseling and therapy to survivors of childhood sexual abuse, preferably within the Tamil community or diverse cultural contexts.
- Experience in using various Art Therapy modalities to engage with groups or individuals with the goal of improving clients' psychological, social and physical well-being
- Knowledge and experience in leading group therapy sessions and facilitating therapeutic interventions for adult trauma survivors.
- Comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges and cultural sensitivities surrounding childhood sexual abuse within the Tamil diaspora in the GTA.
- Understanding of research methodologies, data collection techniques, and analysis procedures in the field of mental health and trauma is an asset.
- Knowledge of relevant local resources, community organizations, and networks within the Tamil community in the GTA is an asset.
- Must be able to participate in clinical consultation and supervision.Demonstrated excellence in both written and verbal communication.
- Demonstrated skills in leadership, team-building and the ability to initiate and model positive change.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing protocols and documentation of data/observations.
- Ability to work with a high level of flexibility and independence.
- Proficiency in Tamil language is highly desirable.
