Approximate Duration: 2-3 years

Please note that effective February 12, 2023 mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations are no longer required as per the Niagara Region’s amended COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. Provide individual, couple, family, and group counselling services for persons with severe and persistent mental health concerns. Provide crisis stabilization, treatment, case management and case consultation services. Provide social work intervention and treatment and act as a professional resource to a diverse, interdisciplinary team. Provide screening and psychosocial mental health assessments to individuals referred to the program for the purpose of triage, determining service needs and eligibility status. Act as an external resource to other mental health and community service providers.
- Masters degree in social work required
- Must be registered as a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) at the time of application
- Minimum of 3 years clinical social work experience in assessment and counselling in a mental health setting is required
- Clinical experience in community mental health preferred
- Formal training in evidence based best practice is preferred. Examples include: cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, group psychotherapy, family therapy, trauma therapy, addictions and concurrent disorders treatment
- Working knowledge of relevant provincial legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act, Child and Family Services Act) pertaining to services provided by a community agency
- Knowledge of community resources relevant to the provision of mental health and related services
- Formal training in mental health assessment and a working knowledge of mental health diagnosis are required
- Must demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Computer literacy is required
- French language skills are an asset
- Must provide own transportation and be able to travel throughout the Niagara Region to other offices, work locations, or sites as authorized by the Corporation for business reasons. Employees who use their personal vehicles for approved Region business shall ensure they are adequately insured with their personal insurance carrier. It is the employee's responsibility to possess and maintain a valid driver's license of the appropriate class to carry out their job in accordance with Corporate Policy.
- Support clients in their travel to locations in the community when it is relevant to the client’s recovery plan as per program policy (which allows the option of staff transporting clients in their personal vehicle)
- In accordance with Corporate Criminal Records Check policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records check, including vulnerable sector screening, and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate prior to commencing employment
- Be available to work flexible hours including weekend and/or evening hours as required
- Vaccinations as recommended in Public Health policy
This position may require some work in the evenings.
