Job Description
The Residential Child & Youth Worker is accountable to the Program Manager.
A trauma informed approach to support children and youth in developing life skills, social skills and accessing community resources. Provides individual care and guidance consistent with the needs of each youth who have experienced trauma, have behavioural challenges, or addictions. Provide stabilization through predictable structures, clear guidelines and positive behaviour support. Youth Care Workers must have the ability to work both within a team and independently, and be able to demonstrate skills in, crisis intervention, conflict resolution and creative problem solving. Must also have effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to model healthy relationships and boundaries.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Participate in goal setting and planning; such as Individualized support plans, Residential Care Plans. Document and implement these plans.
Evaluate individual needs of the youth, and develop immediate and long term responses to meet the needs of the youth, encouraging active participation from the youth.
Review individual progress/engagement and make adjustment to schedules/routines as needed.
Support youth to gain independence. Provide support with daily life skills, social skills. Teaches and assists individuals with activities such as hygiene, cooking, money management, safety skills
Attends to the physical, emotional and medical needs of the youth.
Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, social and vocational activities and engage with other community resources.
Accompany and/or transport youth to activities such as appointments, shopping, school, employment and recreational activities.
Recognize and evaluates risk and intervene with a Trauma Informed response
Administers medication to youth in accordance with establishes policies and procedures.
Ensure Health and Safety standards are maintained.
Provides written reports regarding individuals daily activities, and progress. Ensure all required documentation is complete and accurate.
Perform other related duties as required, such as, but not limited to, minor repairs of the home, touch up painting and other such regular household maintenance needed for the daily upkeep and maintenance of the home.
Perform and complete all required cleaning and sanitizing procedures Staff must be able to lift a minimum of 10lbs
Contribute to team effectiveness through clear and direct communication and participation in staff meetings.
Is familiar with (through regular review) of Centre for Youth Care's policies, procedures, individual protocols and care plans.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
A diploma in Human/Social services or a related discipline or and acceptable combination of education and experience.
A minimum of two years experience working with individuals with development disabilities, behavioural support needs or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook Food Safety Certification
Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) Social Development Check
First Aid and CPR certificate Non-Violent Crisis Intervention SafeTalk
Trauma- Informed Care.
** Candidates are required to provide full proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or a valid medical certificate exempting them from the vaccine.
