Your Opportunity:

Medicine Hat Addiction and Mental Health Outreach Team is looking for an experienced, skilled, enthusiastic and dynamic team member to fill the position of a Mental Health Therapist. This position will work with individuals with complex addiction and mental health issues and will be responsible for the delivery of a continuum of treatment services within the Outreach program. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment planning and implementation. This person will be required to perform psychosocial intervention utilizing a variety of treatment modalities to persons experiencing significant addiction and/or mental health difficulties as needed. The successful candidate will also assist with coordination of clients on Community Treatment Orders and will maintain accurate and appropriate documentation on client files in a timely fashion. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator with strong organizational skills and have a demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, and the ability to create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. This person will have the proven ability to coordinate schedules and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Description:

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of one of the following programs will be considered: Bachelor of Social Work including training and considerable experience in mental health assessment and psychotherapy and who have the authorization to perform the restricted activity of psychosocial intervention. Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy or, a) Related Master’s degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or b) considerable experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Nursing with: a) related Master’s degree including training in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy or b) considerable experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Authorization to do mental health psycho-social intervention is required. Previous experience in a Community Addiction and Mental Health Setting performing addiction and mental health assessments and provision of psychotherapy required. Relevant training in assessment and treatment of addiction and mental health issues is required. The incumbent must have extensive knowledge of Community Treatment Orders and the Mental Health Act. Minimum of 3 years' experience in an Addiction and Mental Health setting performing addiction and mental health assessments required. Proficiency in suicide intervention training and NVCI required.

Preferred Qualifications:

This person should have knowledge of the resources within A&MH and experience with clients with complex addiction and mental health issues. Experience in working collaboratively with allied health professionals and demonstrating innovative clinical leadership in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team environment required. Previous outreach experience preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Please attach a resume and cover letter to be considered for this position.
