Who we are: Responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient movement of both pedestrians and vehicles on the Region’s roadways while protecting the corridor functionality. We operate within three groups:Traffic Engineering,Traffic Signals and Street Lighting, Traffic Operations & Safety
Reports to: Strategist, TransportationTeam Structure: In this position you will be responsible for 3 Supervisors and their indirect teams as well as 1 Sr. Project Manager and 1 Financial Coordinator.
What you will do in this role:
- Accountable to the Strategist of the Transportation Division for the Region’s involvement in the delivery of Traffic Engineering Services, Traffic Signals and Streetligting, Operations and Safety as well as Automated Enforcement programs to the Public meeting growing needs of the residents and businesses of the Region of Peel.
- Manages traffic engineering, traffic signals and streetlighting as well as operations and safety to provide input into environmental approvals and the operating and capital budget processes in accordance with regional and provincial guidelines.
- Fosters and encourages a customer/client service oriented approach within the section by ensuring that all functions uphold our Regional standards and values in the most effective and efficient manner consistent with the Region’s Strategic Plan.
- Monitors the progress of major Section initiatives and capital projects and establishes policies for the operation of these units.
- Develops plans for the Section and makes recommendations to the Strategist on project priorities, means of resourcing and related cost implications.
- Assists in the development of the 10 year capital program
- Establishes policies and procedures for capital effectiveness
- Manages and delivers the Region’s Vision Zero Program
- Manages the delivery of the Region’s Automated Enforcement Program . Facilitates discussions between the Region and the Area municipalities with regard to current and pending agreements.
- Manages the delivery of the Road Permitting Program. Develops and administers current budget for the section and presents to the Strategist for approval
- Attends public meetings to present the Region’s position/actions to the public, media and outside government bodies.
- Participates and acts as main spokesperson for discussions on traffic engineering and safety issues
- Responds to issues and queries raised by Council and present to Council on transportation initiatives and reports.
- Provides technical or professional advice and guidance in areas not explicitly outlined by government guidelines. Develops coalitions, partnerships, or collaborative relationships with external contact in order to achieve major program objectives.
- Defines business requirements for new information technology and software enhancements.
- Reports systems malfunctions and deficiencies.
- Handles issues escalated from reporting staff and approve major transactions.
What the role requires:- Degree/diploma in Traffic/Transportation Engineering or a related discipline
- Five (5) years of job related experience at a leadership level
- Must demonstrate highly developed leadership, supervisory and project management and communication skills
- Combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills/Abilities:- Previous leadership experience
- Well developed communication skills
- Information Analysis in order to interpret and evaluate information to improve existing programs or to develop new approaches or processes
- Strong decision making abilities guided by technical, industry, professional standards or government guidelines or legislation
- Ability to make impactful decisions that will assist in the program, project or service objective
- Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Work Mode & Job Location: In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 10 Peel Centre Drive, Brampton, ON worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
Hours of Work: 35 Hours per week; Monday to Friday
