TEMPORARY SENIOR ACCOUNTING CLERK

Permanent members of OPT - OSSTF District 7 – no FTE restrictions.

TEMPORARY VACANCY
One (1) Temporary full-time (1.0 FTE, 35 hours/week) Senior Accounting Clerk (12 months per year)
LOCATION:
Financial Services
Bluewater District School Board, Chesley
SUPERVISOR : Mindy Guilherme, Accounting Supervisor
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
Analyze accounts and reconciliations as assigned
Complete monthly, quarterly and year-end account reconciliations
Provide guidance to colleagues and staff in area of expertise, board procedures, ministry financial requirements and accounting standards
Review claims related to expenses and rebates, ensuring compliance
Liaise and provide training to school office staff to ensure proper accounting and reconciliation procedures are followed including School Cash, School Budgets, HST Rebate Claims, and reconciliations
Monitor and report on school financial activity, provide guidance and support to schools in maximizing resources
Prepare ad hoc analysis under strict time constraints to support business decisions
Process journal entries – ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Update financial and school processes and procedures to ensure compliance with ministry and board policies
Provide leadership and training assistance within the accounting department
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum three year Community College diploma with an Accounting focus or equivalent required
Two years accounting experience in a mid to large multifaceted computerized corporate environment preferred
ASSETS:
Knowledge of Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) accounting standards, and Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Must have a high aptitude in computer skills (Excel, Accounting software, Word)
Effective communication skills
Strong organizational skills
Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills
Knowledge of school financial and business procedures including cash collections, record keeping and enrolment
