Responsibilities


PRIMARY PURPOSE


Supervises and provides financial expertise through financial accounting and reporting activities, account reconciliations, journal entries and complex analysis. Involves internal audit and controls, risk assessments, year-end audit and all other related reporting activities.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES


Oversees monthly and year-end functions including but not limited to, preparing and posting journal entries, inter-company and month-end accruals - based on approval limit, month-end reconciliations and daily bank reconciliations. Specifically lead administration of CMBC p-cards and compliance with policy. Supervising the day-to-day duties of Accounting Clerks, providing guidance and ensuring that deadlines, procedure and performance standards are maintained, and outcomes are achieved.


Serves as the accounting subject matter expert by providing advanced level of expertise guidance to internal stakeholders of monthly variance analysis vs Budget and vs Forecast. Further conducts complex researches and analyzes the variances to interpret results and make critical recommendations.


Reviews the existing f accounting policies and procedures, ensuring their accuracy and GAAP compliance and recommends improvements for efficiencies Develops draft policies and procedures to be approved by Manager for execution and implementation.


Reviews and authorizes payments to vendors and suppliers (cheques, EFT, wire transfers and FX transactions) and resolve problems where necessary.


Prepares monthly and annual government tax returns and assist in the coordination of the year-end audit, planning and preparing information and schedules as needed.


Analyzes and researches assigned ad-hoc projects to deliver expertise on project teams.


Manages internal controls and perform risk assessments to address and resolve any timing and accuracy issues or recommend solutions to management.


Proactively identifies and develop recommendations for improvement on accounting processes and procedures to incorporate best practice.


Supervises reporting staff, providing leadership for hiring, training and development, coaching, performance planning and review and all other people management practices.

Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


The requirements for this position would be acquired through the completion of a University degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance and completion of an accounting designation (CPA)plus 4 years of progressive experience in in financial analysis, tax (corporate tax, GST and PST) and supervising staff within a large complex organization (including but not limited to union staff)


OTHER REQIREMENTS:


Advance knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures.


Advance knowledge of relevant legislation


Advance knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office suite, specifically in Excel


Solid knowledge on financial information systems


Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as solid interpersonal skills


Strong time management and organizational skills


Solid supervisory skills

Other Information


Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.

Work Schedule


37.5 hours per week.

Work Designation


Hybrid


This position offers the flexibility of working both on-site and remotely within B.C.

Rate of Pay


Salary $85,603 - $107,003 per annum (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
