Position Overview
The incumbent is responsible for organization of the surgical practice including: ensuring consults are booked; liaising with referring physicians and hospital departments; coordinating pre-op testing and booking surgeries; and patient education for pre and post operatively.
Qualifications:
Minimum Formal Education/Training Requirements:
- Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
- Completion of a recognized Medical Office or Medical Administrative Program.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience:
- A minimum of three years directly-related experience in hospital/clinical environment is required.
- Knowledge of Shared Health regulations, programs and procedures is an asset.
- Experience working with hospital/clinical patient information system (Accuro/EPR) or other computerized scheduling systems.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in coordinating and slating appointments.
- A good understanding of health care and health practices.
- Effective and clear verbal and in written communication skills.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with various levels of patients and healthcare stakeholders.
- Must be able to exercise initiative, sound judgment, diplomacy, professionalism and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to organize and handle competing priorities from multiple people, including multiple Healthcare providers and staff at any given time is required.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Excellent planning, organization, problem solving, and time management skills are required
- Must be able to function independently and communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
- Must be able to multitask and function well in a high paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
