Job Description
Organization Background
Castlegar Sculpturewalk is an annual outdoor showcase of sculptural work (approximately 30 per year) by national and international artists. Attracting thousands of visitors each year, it is Castlegar’s top-rated and most-reviewed visitor attraction. Viewers can vote for their favourite sculpture via ballot – the winner of the People’s Choice Award is purchased by the City for its growing permanent art collection. All of the sculptures are available for sale or lease.
Augmented Reality App
Castlegar Sculpturewalk is looking to create an Augmented Reality app to provide additional information for the viewers of our outdoor sculptures, adding a ‘behind-the-scenes’ tour of what would otherwise be purely static pieces. Not only will this offer a greatly enhanced experience and understanding of art and the creative process to the viewer, it provides the artist with a literal voice to discuss their piece.
The information will pull up via smartphone as it focuses on the sculpture, and will include:
- a video overlay of the artist who will speak in depth about their sculpture – their ideas, creatives process, etc. This can be interspersed with designs, sketches, images of other pieces that inspired them, etc.
- a map of the sculpture tour which pinpoints where the viewer is
- amenities along the way
- highlights of our regional sculpture partners (Nelson, Rossland, Creston, Kaslo, Nakusp) and the sculptures that are located there
- highlights of our sponsors, linking to their information
- potential to include paying advertisers (restaurants, etc.)
Pre-production on this will include creating a user-interface for the artists whereby (from their residence and with access to a computer) they can easily video themselves responding to a series of questions, and/or provide additional imagery/video footage. This will need be edited into the final format that will be presented as the AR enhancement. This interface will be re-used each year.
Skills Required:
- previous experience developing/working in augmented reality
- previous app development experience (ideally an AR app which has been released on Apple and Android)
- experience with graphic design, user interfaces
- ideally previous experience working with artists and non-profits
- preference will be given to Kootenay-based companies/individuals
