What we are looking for:
- Assistance with close observation of patients and patient needs; including monitoring patient safety and comfort levels
- Assistance with basic patient care as directed by the Nurse or Therapist (i.e. bathing, nutrition, distributing water, positioning and ambulation)
- Assist with patient moves, transfers and answering call bells
- Empty, change and discard: suction bottles, linen bags, provide and remove bed pans etc as directed by the Nurse
- Communicate with patients/families to increase customer service
- Stocking treatment areas and carts
- Assistance with room set up as well as discharge room change over
- Maintaining linen supplies and cleanliness of the patient rooms, utility rooms, nursing station, tub and shower rooms and patient care equipment
- Other duties as assigned by the unit staff
What you bring to the role:
- Completion of a recognized personal support worker certificate or health care aide program from a community college or equivalent education
- Current BCLS certification
- Previous related experience, preferably in an acute care environment
- Proficient computer skills; experience using Meditech is an asset
- Knowledge of universal precautions and medical terminology an asset
- Strong customer service, interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work well independently and as part of an interprofessional team
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload
- Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
- Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
Physical Demands:
- Frequent moderate and heavy exertion (e.g. pushing stretchers, wheelchairs, etc.)
- Lifting over 60 lbs.
Work Schedule:
The successful candidate will be available to work 8 hour shifts, Days (0700h - 1530h) and Evenings (12-8 or 1-9) between the days of Monday through Sunday including holidays.
Please note that schedules are subject to change based on operational needs.
Compensation:
BAND CU01A: $25.37 - 27.87 per hour
