The Individual Insurance Offer Team is a diverse and close-knit team. We are responsible for building new features and maintaining our web-based platform that generates insurance illustrations. Our goal is to improve the advisor and client experience to ensure that our customers continue to have the tools they need to succeed.
We are excited to add an experienced and dedicated .NET Core C# developer to our team. You will play a key role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust software solutions built on the .NET Core framework using C# programming language. You will collaborate with multi-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality software products that meet our clients' needs. You will work on new features and have an active voice in our digital solutions. Working within a collaborative and supportive team structure where we ‘get it done together’ and ‘own it’ on a day-to-day basis.
As a Backend Engineer, you will :
Participate in conceptualization and brainstorming sessions to devise creative and innovative digital solutions.
Design, code, unit test and integrate new features and functionality.
Collaborate with product owners, software engineers, quality engineers and business analysts to uncover difficulties and opportunities to deliver new business value through software.
Maintain and ensuring high quality software by writing clean, maintainable, and well-documented code that adheres to industry best practices and coding standards, with accountability for production reliability and usage.
Mentor and guide junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and expertise to help them grow professionally. Including conducting code reviews and provide constructive feedback to junior engineers.
Stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in .NET Core, C#, and related technologies to ensure our software solutions are brand new and efficient.
Familiarity with agile and DevOps principles, test-driven development, continuous integration, and other approaches to accelerate the delivery of new features by actively chipping in to sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Complete documentation as part of definition of done. e.g., deployment, maintenance, support and for business needs.
Drive software development process to quality-centric methodologies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
At least 5 years of professional experience in software development, with a focus on backend development using .NET C# and 2 years at least on .NET core.
Proficient in backend development using technologies like ASP.NET, MVC, Web API, and Entity Framework.
Knowledge of software development standard processes, design patterns, and solid principles.
Strong understanding of backend architecture and the ability to design scalable and efficient systems.
Knowledge of asynchronous programming and multithreading concepts.
Ability to analyze and debug sophisticated issues in a distributed system.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to come up with innovative solutions.
Familiarity with debugging tools and techniques.
Version control, performance optimization and coding standard methodologies.
Collaborative attitude, willingness to work with team members; able to coach, participate in code reviews, share skills and methods. Also efficiently communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical collaborators.
Continuously learn from both success and failure.
Good verbal and written communication; efficiently articulate technical vision, possibilities, and outcomes.
Proven passion for technology and a commitment to staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and advancements in .NET development.
Proactive towards learning new technologies and frameworks.
Nice to have:
Knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD tools, such as Jenkins.
Knowledge on containerized applications using Docker and Gitflow like Flux and Helm Chart.
Basic knowledge on AKS, Pods and Mesh network like Istio.
Experience in test frameworks such as TestNG, Selenium etc. and knowledge of test-driven development.
ReactJS & UI Development experience.

Salary & Benefits
The annual base salary for this role is listed below.
Primary Location
Waterloo, OntarioSalary range is expected to be between
$72,450.00 CAD - $134,550.00 CADIf you are applying for this role outside of the primary location, please contact recruitment@manulife.com for the salary range for your location. The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
