We are looking for a Business Intelligence (BI) Developer to create and manage BI and analytics solutions that turn data into knowledge. The role is highly technical and requires expert data warehouse, SQL, ETL, data modeling, DAX, data analytics, and BI tools skillset. The incumbent will manage and develop Business intelligence infrastructure, deliver ongoing reporting and monitoring to senior management, as well as address ad-hoc data requests. Ultimately, you will enhance our business intelligence system to help us make better decisions.
The Senior Business Intelligence Developer will:
- Study, analyze, and understand business requirements in the context of business intelligence, utilizing advanced analytics tools such as data mining, clustering, and predictive models to expand and improve scoping of various initiatives
- Design and map data models to shift raw data into meaningful insights, analyzing previous and present data for better decision making
- Utilize Power BI to build interactive and visually appealing dashboards and reports; develop tabular and multidimensional models that are compatible with data warehouse standards and create and run DAX and SQL queries and functions in PowerBI
- Diagnose, continually improve, and maintain the current eco-system and help fix and enhance existing reports and dashboards
- Identify data sources based on requests from internal customers and design BI tools to help end users best synthesize data and make optimal business decisions
- Support the BI end-users through training sessions, user guides, one-on-one consultations, advice, workshops, troubleshooting, downtime procedures, and issue resolution
- Follow and enhance BI standards and best practices across the team. Collaborate and mentor team members on methodology, design, and architecture
- Research the tools used by the BI team and add predictive methodologies such as AI/ML to the repertoire by strategically finding use cases and business justifications
- Participate in a variety of internal and external committees as required and establish positive working relationships to coordinate the exchange of data and to ensure successful outcomes and cooperation
To be successful you should have:
- Proven 7 years and above hand-on experience as a BI Developer or Data Scientist
- Minimum of seven years of experience developing and implementing Azure/Power BI solutions, including modelling, design, development and testing of data visualization or paginated report solutions
- Data Warehouse/Lakehouse: Strong understanding of data warehousing principles, including data modeling, ETL processes, data integration, and data governance. Hands-on working experience with date warehouses.
- Azure Cloud and Power BI: Proficiency in Power BI desktop and Power BI Service, including data modeling, creating interactive reports and dashboards and utilizing advanced features. Hand-on working experience with these technologies.
- Experience with SSIS, SSRS
Skills and knowledge:
- Data Warehouse/Lakehouse Concepts: Strong understanding of data warehousing principles, including data modeling, ETL processes, data integration, and data governance.
- Microsoft Azure Synapse/SQL/Postgres: In-depth knowledge and experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, including its architecture, data storage options (e.g., SQL Data Warehouse, Data Lake Storage), data ingestion mechanisms (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks), and security features.
- Power BI Service/Desktop: Proficiency in Power BI, including data modeling, creating interactive reports and dashboards, configuring data gateways, and utilizing advanced features such as DAX and Power Query.
- SQL and Query Optimization: Strong SQL skills for writing complex queries, optimizing database performance, and troubleshooting query performance issues. Understanding of indexing, partitioning, and query execution plans.
- Data Integration: Knowledge of various data integration techniques, including data extraction from different sources (e.g., databases, APIs, flat files), data transformation, and loading into a data warehouse. Familiarity with ETL tools and technologies, such as Azure Data Factory or SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services).
- Data Modeling and Design: Proficiency in designing logical and physical data models, understanding relationships, defining hierarchies, and ensuring efficient data storage and retrieval.
- Data Visualization: Ability to create visually appealing and informative reports and dashboards using Power BI, understanding best practices for data visualization, and storytelling with data.
- Data Security and Governance: Knowledge of data security principles, data governance practices, data quality management, and data lifecycle management.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities to identify business requirements, analyze data, and provide meaningful insights to stakeholders.
- Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication skills to interact with stakeholders, gather requirements, and present findings. Collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams, such as data engineers, data analysts, and business stakeholders.
- Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Azure Repos) and collaboration tools (e.g., Azure DevOps) for managing code, tracking changes, and collaborating with team members.
- Experience with SQL Server Management Studio, Azure data management tools, data modeling tools (preferably, ERWIN).
- Experience with SSIS, SSRS
