The Office of Experiential Learning & Outreach Support (ELOS) in the Faculty of Arts & Science has a mandate to grow quality experiential learning opportunities forArts & Science students, including work-integrated learning, co-op / internships, career-engaged learning, community-engaged learning, research, and international opportunities.

The Faculty of Arts & Science’s 2020-2025 Academic Plan calls for an ambitious plan to expand experiential learning opportunities available to undergraduate students across all Arts & Science disciplines. The Faculty is committed to preparing students for lifelong success in the labour market, deepening relationships with local partners in the public, private and non-profit sectors and increasing opportunities for international student mobility. As part of our expansion of experiential learning, we launched theArts & Science Internship Program (ASIP) in Fall 2021. The program currently provides specialized professional development training and paid work-integrated learning opportunities for Arts & Science students across 20 different academic programs, with anadditional 29 new programs joining in the Fall of 2023, and continued plans for annual growth. Participation in the ASIP stream allows students to explore career options, apply their academic learning in a professional context, gain valuable work experience, and build a professional network. Reporting to the Associate Director, Employer Relations & Operations, the Business Development Officer (BDO) is responsible for developing employment opportunities for ASIP students. The BDO will search for new employers and maintain relationships with existing partners across multiple sectors, developing meaningful job opportunities for students that complement the learning in their academic programs. The BDO will develop strategies for identifying new opportunities and to grow existing employer relationships, including but not limited to, engaging with professional organizations, participating in community and industry events, tradeshows and conferences, cold calling, connecting with alumni, and leveraging existing networks for lead generation. The incumbent will provide exceptional service to employers locally, nationally and internationally and take a holistic approach to meeting their recruiting needs. The successful candidate will get to know the unique elements of U of T Arts & Science programs and students in order to target relevant opportunities and to speak to the strengths of hiring Arts & Science students. The BDO will collaborate with the employer relations teams from other U of T co-op and internship programs to provide a coordinated approach to partnership building where appropriate, and to showcase the full strengths of U of T and our students. The BDO will work closely with other members of the ASIP Employer Relations Team and the Student Services team to ensure development opportunities meet student needs and interests and to achieve a high student employment rate. The incumbent will also perform labour market analysis to assess the feasibility of the introduction of new programs.
Your responsibilities will include:
Implementing plans that supportthe development of work-integrated learning opportunities for students- Identifying, fostering and maintaining relationships with potential and existing partners
- Promoting programming, student needs and interests to employers and industry contacts
- Conducting detailed labour market analysis to inform program and partnership development
- Developing and revising business methods that support employment services activities and objectives
- Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
- Tracking the status of business development initiatives, activities and outcomes
- Gathering information on student performance from employers
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree, preferably in an Arts & Science discipline or acceptable combination of education and equivalent experience.- Minimum five (5) years of experience in business development, recruiting or sales, with demonstrated success.
- In depth knowledge and experience in the postsecondary sector, the entry-level labour market, and employment trends.
- Experience and proven track record in a target-based environment with demonstrated success meeting and exceeding performance goals.
- Demonstrated ability and experience to grow a successful sales funnel through self-generated leads and initiatives.
- Experience and ability to work with a diverse client group across multiple sectors.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects or priorities simultaneously with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to show sound judgement in dealing with confidential information.
- Experience with Customer Relationship Management tools (e.g. Salesforce) and Experiential Learning Management Software (e.g. ORBIS, Symplicity)
- Excellent communication skills and strong relationship building, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 programs and strong IT fluency.
- Ability to work in and comfort within a fast-paced student services environment juggling many activities simultaneously.
- Highly driven to meet targets, proactive, persuasive, and diplomatic.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and analyze data critically, and identify major trends and directions.
