POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Brand Marketing and Communications, the Communications Officer will play a pivotal role in supporting all fundraising efforts of the three Foundations of HSN by leveraging brand awareness using digital platforms and engaging with audiences using creative communications strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
WEBSITE COMMUNICATIONS
- Ensure that the three Foundation websites and Intranet portals are continually up to date with the latest news/events and develop relevant content to keep sites current. Adhere to guidelines/policies for a consistent management approach.
- Continually look at ways to improve the donor experience through the Foundation websites (i.e. navigation and ease of online giving).
- Report on campaigns and website-specific metrics to better understand and effectively communicate with audiences.
- Continually quality check and update key creative elements on the websites (i.e. banners, photos, videos, etc.).
- Enhance brand awareness within the website, driving web traffic, and improving the donor’s digital journey.
- Work with the Manager, Lottery and Websites, and external web developer to help remove roadblocks to ensure a successful online browsing and donation experience.
- Ensure timely upload of required documents on all three websites (i.e. financial statements, impact/annual reports, and T-3010 form, etc.).
SOCIAL MEDIA
- Work with the team to create a digital and social media strategy to manage social media channels and websites, including planning content and graphics creation, posting, scheduling, tracking performance, and monitoring/replying to online messages.
- Assist with video production and photography for social media platforms and fundraising use.
- Work with the events team to actively promote signature and third-party events across social media platforms.
- Assist in monitoring and evaluating social media platforms/performance using analytical tools to ensure the integrity of the respective brand.
- Report on metrics to better understand and effectively communicate with audiences.
- Stay current with social media trends and best practices.
- Work with the Manager, Lottery, and Websites to contribute to promotions of the HSN 50/50 Cash Lottery for the North as required.
FUNDRAISING COMMUNICATIONS
- Contribute to content development for use across various communication vehicles and to support the fundraising team (i.e. backgrounders, news releases, speaking notes, website, social media channels, e-blasts, advertisements, proposals, impact reports, patient stories).
- Assist with recognizing potential impact stories through social media platforms and help develop a robust plan with team members for generating and sharing patient, family, and impact stories.
- Provide support for media requests and relevant written materials as needed; track and monitor media coverage.
- Work with staff to deliver communications support for key events, announcements, tours, etc., including design work and capturing events with photography.
- Provide support with the promotion of the grateful patient fundraising programs.
- Coordinate French translation of content as required.
OTHER DUTIES AS REQUIRED
- Graphic design and layout
- Some evening and weekend work may be required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Diploma/degree in public relations, communications, marketing, or related field of study, and demonstrated three (3) + years of related professional experience.
- Bilingual (French/English) considered an asset
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to manage a diverse workload, and prioritize tasks and competing priorities while ensuring deadlines are met.
- Ability to work effectively, independently, and as part of a collaborative team.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Experience across media platforms, and knowledge of current digital, social media, and marketing trends.
- Graphic design, photography and videography skills an asset.
- Experience with MS Office, InDesign, Photoshop, and WordPress (an email marketing platform is an asset).
- Ability to use data and metrics to measure impact and determine improvements.
- Knowledge and experience with Raiser’s Edge are considered assets.
- Valid driver’s license and daily access to a reliable vehicle.
- Team player who has a positive attitude with a strong work ethic, who recognizes the importance of the mission of the Foundations.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain a current Police Criminal Record Check.
What we offer:
Salary range of $42,000 - $46,000/annum, excellent benefits plan, participation in the Hospitals of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP), and vacation allowance.
