Job Description
The Nature Conservancy of Canada is seeking a dynamic individual to join the Alberta Region’s Development team to help raise the profile of conservation and grow our network of supporters. This team is responsible for raising the funds needed for conservation projects across Alberta, helping to market and communicate NCC’s work to a broad range of audiences, and developing engaging opportunities for supporters to get involved in NCC’s work. The Development & Communications Assistant is responsible for providing fundraising administrative support to the Director of Development & Communications, general support for the Development team including leading on project and database management, and supporting the delivery of outreach events and activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assistant to the Director of Development & Communications (50%)
- Maintain donor relationships by managing files and records including emails, calendars, and donor records in Raiser’s Edge;
- Prepare documentation that requires sign off by the Director of Development & Communications and finalizing documents that need to be sent to various audiences;
- Provide support to the Regional Fund Development Committee;
- Assist with the organization of donor meetings including preparing materials and conducting donor research;
- Assist with organization and scheduling of appointments, travel arrangements, task lists/projects, and with various initiatives as required.
Development & Communications Team Support (40%)- Act as the key user and manager of the Raiser’s Edge data base for the AB Development Team;
- Organize meetings, develop agendas, prepare meeting spaces, and attend meetings to assist with minute keeping, coordinating follow up;
- Manage project timelines and deliverables;
- Prepare and send out thank you letters and tax receipts to donors;
- Handle general inquiries from our supporters and the public;
- Pull reports from Raiser’s Edge on fundraising metrics;
- Manage the AB Development Department & Communications internal online records and department page;
- Lead the hiring and exit processes for the Development & Communications Department by working with managers to post jobs internally and externally, review applications, schedule interviews, and ensure proper onboarding and exit procedures are followed;
- Support the Development & Communications team as required.
Events Support (5%)- Represent NCC and share information about mission and programs at various regional events;
- Assist in preparation, setup, and takedown for regional marketing, communications, and development events;
- Assist the Conservation Volunteers Program Manager with delivery of Conservation Volunteer events on an ad hoc basis as required;
- Assist with event related administration and record keeping.
- Communications support (5%)
- Assist in the creation of content to be used for communication and marketing purposes, as well as support the creation of property signage;
- Assist with the maintenance of the Alberta page of NCC’s website, ensuring content is up to date and actively supports marketing and communications initiatives;
- Assist in the development and distribution of NCC materials.

- Ability to be proactive, anticipate issues, and problem solve;
- Strong written and verbal communicative abilities are required to effectively interact with other staff, volunteers, donors, board members, other individuals and handle general inquiries;
- Demonstrated ability to work on a team and independently;
- Detail-oriented, accurate, and professional;
- Proficiency working with Microsoft Office products;
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge is an asset;
- Experience with Adobe creative suite or adding content to webpage, and the ability to learn new software, is an asset;
- Experience in fundraising, marketing, communications or community relations is an asset;
- Experience in an administrative role or executive support role is an asset.
