Bonaventure Support Services is a dynamic and expanding social service agency on Vancouver Island. As a Community Support Worker, you will follow the direction of the Program Manager, and function as part of a team to provide for the daily living needs of individuals both in their home and in community.
You will be responsible for enhancing one's quality of life, ensuring the physical, emotional, social, recreational, economic, educational, and/or medical needs of supported individuals are met. A key component of this role may be crisis intervention and risk management, recognizing behavior as communication and promote positive behavioral intervention strategies, following program approaches in a consistent, safe, and competent manner. You may be required to provide mentoring and support when working directly and relationally with high-risk, vulnerable Individuals.
Qualifications:
- Preferred formal education (Diploma or Degree, CSW, RCA, SIVA etc.) and/or work experience with persons with diverse-abilities and/or other relevant experience.
- Excellent interpersonal behavior and communication skills
- The desire and ability to work with persons with diverse-abilities and demonstrate personal suitability to promote dignity, independence, individuality.
- Ability to work independently in a sometimes high stress environment.
- Must be in good health with the physical ability to carry out the duties of the position and shift responsibilities.
Abilities:
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Follow protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to stay calm and focused in stressful situations.
- Assist individuals with the activities of daily living involving their personal and health care, behavioural, nutritional, recreational, social, vocational, educational, and environmental needs as identified in their person-centered plan.
- Contribute to a cohesive and inclusive team environment.
- Promote respectful treatment of individuals and defend individual rights, including demonstration of a high degree of tolerance for the individual's unique personalities and challenges.
- Ability to support individuals to communicate needs, choices, and preferences, and to support the use of inclusive communication strategies.
- Promote positive behavioral intervention strategies, following program approaches in a consistent, competent manner, that will protect themselves and the supported individuals.
- Recognize a potential crisis/emergency situation, analyze the situation accurately, and develop strategies to deal with an individual's unexpected and or aggressive behavior.
- Follow the Risk Assessments and apply all Safety Plans/Behavior Support Strategies in maintaining safety to supported individual, self and others in the community.

- Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence
- RCMP Criminal Record Check (Schedule A - Employer will file)
- MCFD CRC Hub Screening Review
- Valid First Aid Certificate including CPR
